Ok so Im pretty new to this SSBM and when I play as fox I have trouble remembering to L cancel and I have trouble short hopping. Now I can still short hop but I normally cant do it when im going against someone. Its as if I just freeze up and cant do it anymore. So I was wondering if you can give me any advice on how I can work on these two things since I have no siblings who play the game and few friends who like the game( the rest like xbox, ps2 etc.)

I sometimes have the same problems.What I do is concetrate.You can also watch what pros do in videos in certain situations.Keep learning the button movements and you'll be able to do it when you play your friends.

Ok ill have to try it because everytime I play I can never get it down. Or mabe the problem is I just havnt found my good character yet

it all comes with time thats the answer to everything in smash. for the short hopping try sliding your finger off of the X or Y button kind of like a flick or something. and everyone just starting had the l cancel problem and if they say they didnt they are liars. just keep playing and always try to concentrate while your playing always think l cancel l cancel l cancel.

yea u might wanna try that cuz certain characters r much more difficult to perform advanced tactics on

for example

i know few people who tell me it is a hard as **** to short hop wit samus and shiek

i also remember reading a post a REAL LONG time ago when this guy explain to me for a lot of characters if u short hop do an attack and fastfall u should press l when u press down and u usually get an l cancel (btw its def a bit different for capt's d-air and ganon's dair)

y not jus watch wak's vid on advanced tactics or sumthin like that i basically shows u how to do EVERYTHING in the game which i forgot where it wuz posted..... o man any1 know where it is...?

Yeah, that is how I learned to wave dash with everyone, I started with fox, and because the timing was so specific, I was able to time with others easier. However, instead of opening a new thread, I was curious, does anyone know visually the timing you would shine spike a fire fox/falco and illusion? I have come to the conclusion you have to be on the side but not right in front of, (but shined blind disagrees with me I think) Thanx in advance

well the l cancelin u will get down when u kept on use it... it will start to become a pattern after u keep on using after a while.....

and the short hop for fox is one of the hardest so in order for u to master it i think u should just got on FD and pratice short hoppin all over the stage wit the drill bair dair ect... and when u play sum one in person just pic them as if u were playin the computer but just a little better...

ok well btw this is really hard to do unless u do wat alot of players do and jus grab the ledge b4 u actually do the shinespike(for the fire anyway) well visually i would guess that u jus gotta be next to him and close enough that the shine will hit him but not so close that u will get hit as well....

but just grab the ledge a split second u wanna shinespike it makes life easier

also as a side not i remeber someone telling people that the lower back part of fox's shine is a bit larger than his front side im not sure if thats true but i think it is.....

for the illusion its kinda a timing thing its hard to explain u kinda jus gotta time it i mean wait for the sound of the illusion to happen cc and jus shine i guess......

I got the illusion down right after I posted, and your right, if you grab the ledge, and your back is facing the opponent, then generally it is as simple as shining someone running at you ^.^ However, You can shine someone from the front as well, its just INCREDIBALLY HARD! I'm working on it though. I wish Masashi would magically appear and help me... ;_;

FYI dark meow there are a lot of fox players that are better than masashi. also, just practice doing it to the CPU until you get the timing down.
