I've been posting a lot lately so I'll make this quick.

I don't think this is new by any means, but I didn't see a thread about it here.

Watch this -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OXEavm5KkY

This helps Marth's game immensely, like, dealing with Diddy's banana and most other character's projectiles.

I know I've heard about this before but I've forgotten about it.

It's a totally viable option and not too hard to do.

Tips
-LAB this tech
-I put a level 3 - 7 cpu Lucina on and did this with all Marth's tilts, jab, side B, and up B.
-I used the green turtle shell at first, like it shows in the video.

If you want to improve your Marth game, you need this, at least to some extent.
Good luck, peace.

Edit
STRATEGIES
I will post here about strategies and situations to use this as I think of them. Feel free to add to the list.

-Pikachu's thundershock to grab trap.

-Similarly, Diddy's banana to grab trap.

-Ryu's blue fireball.

-PK fire

-Mario's fireball to grab trap.

-Rob's Gyro (within sword range - possibly high difficulty)

-An out of shield option to punish predictable aerial landings, like Sheik's fair.

-Luigi's fireball grab trap

Thanks for the reminder that this exists T-T
I was too busy with just not being crap at the game in general when this was discovered.

Just wanna say thanks for posting these Marth techs. I shall put them to use whenever possible.

BTW this may be a bit off topic but, uh what is your profile picture supposed to be? I look at it in different ways but I cannot seem to make out what it is. I see Marth and Ike, but I can only see the bottom of it as a speed boat.

It's from an anime - Gurren Lagann - edited by me to attempt to change them to Marth and Ike ^_^

Thanks, I'm happy that this stuff is perhaps helpful to people.

Also! New video showing this tech - Optimized!

Sorry no good quality - I don't own a capture card thingy.

Using Cstick set to Smash can be used to roll or spot dodge after the powershield...

(Attack/tilt Cstick just gives you a grab which doesn't really help too much)

Using Smash Cstick, you will either dodge if you input early - before they attack
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtYiaICc-Ks&t=0m08s

Or your shield will be hit after the timeframe for perfect shield has passed (after 3 frames)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtYiaICc-Ks&t=0m29s

Or, if they strike your perfect shield, you will do a Smash attack instead of a spotdodge/roll
(Like 9 times this match, lol)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtYiaICc-Ks&t=0m09s

This tech will also help with
-Mewtwo/Falcon/Fox/Cloud/Samus (ect)'s dash attacks!

Since there's a good chance you'll either shield, dodge, or perfect shield option select and they eat an fsmash to the face!

There may be more applications to Perfect Shield Option Select than I described here, but these are what I've found so far.

Again, you definitely CAN do this with specials, attacks, and tilts - except AS FAR AS I KNOW the only way to get the spotdodge and roll option select is by using Smash Cstick. (Maybe there's other methods though)
Meaning, wiffing an attempt at this seems to be less dangerous with Smash Cstick than it is without it.

Cool stuff, was about to say that maybe you can make a thread to compile all your information in a singular place + discussion would be good at this point. I'd think that would be a good direction to take. Back on topic, good stuff! Definitely something to try out when I get the time.

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I'm pretty excited about this tech.

I can see me playing a match vs some Cloud or Sheik and then all of a sudden a tipper Fsmash hits them out of shield faster than they thought possible! Lol ^_^

I like this one because I already try to spot dodge and roll strategically anyway, so this just makes them randomly dangerous automatically.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the inputs are shield -> down on the left stick -> left/right on the c-stick, correct? So the option select is that on regular shield or on whiff, you spot dodge, and on perfect shield, you do a frame perfect f-smash to punish?

Also, can this work with A+B smash? I don't want to switch to c-stick smash, but this OS seems pretty viable.

When you hold shield and input Cstick(smash) in directions left or right, you will roll, and down will spot dodge.

The only input I did in that video was
-Hold shield
-Left with Cstick
(Sometimes Cstick down gives me an Fsmash and sometimes it's a Dsmash. It's some kind of timing thing I don't entirely understand yet)

If he didn't hit me and instead tried to grab, I would have rolled behind him.
If he hit my shield after the perfect shield and before the roll, I would have stayed in hitstun, but probably wouldn't have any severe frame disadvantage if he just jabbed.
But since he did hit my perfect shield - the perfect shield option select was activated when I hit Cstick to the left, which ignores the 7 frames it takes to drop a perfect shield, and instead the Fsmash immediately came out.

Option select just means that one single input could do 2 different things, depending on if your are hit on your perfect shield, or if you are not hit.

So, I am not sure if the strategic benefit can be achieved without Cstick set to Smash, because Cstick set to Attack only gives you grab, and does not cause you to roll or spot dodge.

Here's another recent match where I used the Option Select, and I input a Dsmash
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_kMgIvOPaw&t=0m40s

Other times I am just cancelling the shield lag into an Ftilt
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_kMgIvOPaw&t=0m19s

This is called perfect parrying, a video was made about it last year, but I don't think the Marth meta yet understood how necessary it was for our survival.

Getting perfect shields on laggy wifi forglory is tricky, and it's not quite as hard offline, imo. So hopefully this helps people a lot.

Again, I am not for sure that the benefit I get strategically with this option select is exclusive to my button setup, but at this time I suspect it can't be done with any other input method.

Also, if you use A+B=smash, that will get you a smash attack, but again, I don't think you would get a roll because A+B=smash doesn't input rolls like CstickSmash does.

On the bright side, you may not get the rolls from Cstick, but you can at least get instant moves out of a perfect shield!

I wanted to respond to your question. After taking a refresher course on option selects, the answer to your question is - yes, you can do this with A+B=smash and without needing to use Cstick smash.

Your inputs would be
-Tap Shield
-Input roll or spotdodge
-Immediately press A+B

Please lab test this to be sure, and you'll have to practice the timing, but I believe this would do the trick.

As long as you perfect shield, and then roll, then you will either roll if they don't hit you, and if they do then the attack should come out.

I mean, if you're going to perfectshield and roll anyway, why not push that extra input and perhaps take advantage one of the fastest Fsmashes in the game?

Nice info, learned a lot! Thanks!
Here's the original channel and videos on Option Selects. As I suspected, it's a little more complex than I thought. It is a WEALTH of information to sift through, but it will definitely improve your game if you are up for dedicating some time to it.

Some of these are great - practical, easy to apply, and others perhaps not so much.

Applications of Tech
I'm going to post clips here of me using this tech, and update it when/if I find new uses.
I will also post new ways I am applying option selects in game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps65BE5Kt4M&t=2m26s - Roll/Fsmash OS - on Corrin's Sideb

I think the nice thing about C stick OS that I use is that it really doesn't change my play style in order to implement - it's not a difficult input for me since I'm not adding extra inputs in case a few different things happen - but these videos above show that just about anything is possible with option selects.
