Potential Reveal Dates for Smash Ultimate Content?

Besides a Nintendo Direct or a Smash Direct (which is probably going to happen), what other potential dates are there for getting a new character reveal for Ultimate?

Possibly whenever a big-ish game or notable DLC for another game is launched they could get announced on the website if the newcomer coincides?

Like for example Rex and Pyra being announced in September to coincide with the release of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 "Torna - The Golden Country" DLC.

Honestly it's all guess work, but I'd guess that is the only other non direct conext

Is this the thread where everyone talks about reveals happening to coincide with anniversaries or game releases that just end up being ignored? Maybe I'm wrong but I can't really remember during the last game if we ever got reveals based on anniversaries or game releases.

I don't think there will be any particular rhyme or reason to when we get trailers

I feel like they'll want to space them out over the next 6 months, so it depends on how many new additions there will be. I'm going to put in a conservative guess at one every 1.5-2 months.

I honestly feel like part of keeping this game so close to the chest is that they aren't going to spend as long hyping it up. I'd be surprised if we did see this game outside of whatever Directs we get between now and launch.

I do think we'll get a specific Smash Direct sometime around October though.

Well considering we are 6 months away from the release of Smash Ultimate, and according to Vergeben we still have at least a half dozen characters left. That means we could get a newcomer reveal a month. Since Evo 2018 is in August, I would be shocked if Nintendo didn't reveal something there in front of that electric crowd.

Forgot about Evo, that would be the only non-Direct situation that I could see them revealing something. Maybe even a (new) playable demo? I wouldn't have thought so before the news of CEO, but, it's definitely not impossible.

Actually, there were plenty of characters (mostly vets) revealed on anniversay dates. Olimar, Captain Falcon and Marth, just to name a few. Pretty sure there were a lot more, but it was a few years ago, so I don't remember all of them off the top of my head.

Smash 4 did it with veterans but we've never had a newcomer that coincided with a game announcement or release, idk why people are once again expecting that.
