Me, among many of us, have high hopes set for Brawl with a standard that Melee set. Due to this most of us also fear what the upcoming release will be like. The only solid information we have right now is that where not be a ranking system. To many that itself is enough to turn them away, but there is a very simple solution to fix this problem.

Solution #1) Have Ranked AND unranked matches.

It worked well enough with Halo, I'm certain that it would be fine for Brawl.

Like I said earlier, many of us also fear that Brawl will end up worse then Melee. Although Sakurai knows and even if Brawl ends up to be a magnificant game I'm sure there'll be m any who'd rather play Melee. That brings me to Solution #2.

Solution #2)
A) Have a bonus disc which contains melee with WiFi capabilities or
B) Have a code come with Brawl that allows you to DL Melee with the online capabilities

I don't have a technical knowledge of servers and what not but I'm pretty sure it would be easy enough to do.

Any commens or feedback?

I personally will play Brawl online even if there is no rank system. I don't really care about win-loss records. I don't care if other people can see that I have a 2:1 win:loss ratio (or vice-versa), as long as I know how I'm doing. If there are ranked and unranked matches, I'll play a bit of both. Sounds like a good idea.

Solution #2 sounds like a fantasy, but my goodness would that ever be awesome. I'd play Melee online if I could. Acualy, maybe that's not such a fantasy. The Wii can be updated, like a computer, with downloaded content, right? I can use a computer well, but I don't really know how they work. Would it be possible to stream software that enables those who own Melee to play online? Even if I have to pay to get something like that, I probably would.

Meh, even if it is possible, I don't see it happening for some reason.

Good ideas!

Solution 1 is good, i'll give you that, but it doesnt matter to me, as long as I can play online against other people and get more practice than what I am use to... fine with me..

Solution 2 i wouldnt be to amped for, mainly because I am sick of using the same characters having the same attacks and seeing the same stages... So I will play Brawl no matter what...

You can already play melee online, with an Action replay and Phantasy star online, but i think it's quite buggy, not tried it myself. There's video on youtube though.

I think the reason there isn't rankings is online is because they just don't want to do them. I'm sure it wouldn't take them long to make some sort of system, so my guess is they aren't making one because they don't want to. And #2 isn't happening.

Solution 1 is good.

As for Solution 2....I think you should try to understand more about programing.
Remember when the people who reserved Windwaker recieved free discs with OOT and Master Quest. The same could potentially apply to Brawl. People who reserve the game could get discs with Melee on it and although it may seem hard to do, it is a fairly old game after all, technology has come a long way. Downloading it may seem fairly hard to do but in all honesty melee is probably not a large file. It has fairly advanced textures but beyond that it does not contain much as far as levels and the like go. It's mainly physics. If a game like Super Mario 64 can be downloaded and played I'm sure a game like melee, although probably larger, is not completely out of the scope.

As far as online with melee goes, considering they're already going to establish a host for Brawl, it isn't a huge amount of effort to establish a few extra online servers for those playing Melee.

Then again I could be completely wrong, but I like to stay optimistic.

Super Mario 64: ~8MB (This seems too small to me, but I download a ROM to check and it was 8MB)
Super Smash Bros Melee: ~1GB (From checking torrent sites)

Haha shows you how much I know. I guess the graphics for games takes up a lot of space because some of the N64 Games that I have which have better graphics (Conkers Bad Fur Day, Banjo-Tooie) take up like 50 MB each.

Frankly I think it's a terrible idea to have ranked online gameplay. I hate it. It makes players focus on being number 1 instead of having fun (I believe the guy in charge of the game said this to...)

That's why they should implement both, no point of screwing some people over for others personal preference.

it could be like the zelda master quest disc...where they added a slightly souped up verion of ocarina of time...they could add a souped up version of melee...the souped up parts being slightly better and crisper graphics and online capabilities...peace

andto all the people who have bad stuff to say about ranked online play...what do you say to all the other online ranked games that are doing just fine?...they may have some of those problems listed against online play...but it doesnt break the game...the games are still up and running...even with some of those flaws...i mean..i love ranked gameplay...it gives me a good incentive to play into the wee hours of tyhe night.."i can't go to sleep until i get to level 32"...but having a ranking system helped me get A LTO bteer in halo 2...i knew where i wanted to stand against the other players...so i kept playing until i reached my goal..yeah you end up playing some derankers, modders, standbyers...and it sucks and its annoying..but it doesnt break the game because the rest of the time..its just fun..and the fun you have in a normal ranked game with no cheating heavily outweighs the cons...but i believe thats why the halo community is so much bigger and more competitive...everyone gets to play online against all these people in their same level so they are always constantly getting challenged...every game is a struggle since your playing people in your skill level..its great...as for unranked games...i was bored a lot...since the people going into unranked games were usually not as serious or not as skilled...or since it was not a ranked game...they would goof off and not play for real since "their rank wouldnt drop"....and i would end up playing bums who were killing themselves.. killing their teammates...running around in front of you but not shooting...just being idiots..and taking the fun away...in ranked games..everybody is playing their hardest ( for the most part, there is the chance you get the occasional deleveler in your team) they dont want to lose cuz they value their rank...peace

EDIT: OH YEAH...THERE'S AN EDIT BUTTON HERE!!!! OOPS!!!!...
