Hmm... I'm guessing people have found this out already (I've been trying to keep up with the olimar forums just to see what's new) but Olimar's upspecial with no pikmin can reach a longer distance than Olimar with 2-3 pikmin. I finally got my recording equipment fixed so I can actually post the video this time :) . No worries if it's been found though. I just thought it was interesting. I don't find it incredibly useful, but I've used it a couple times in play (when I have two pikmin I'll just chuck them to do his 'super jump' ). I guess the intention of this was to balance Olimar out when he has no pikmin (somewhat better recovery). I think basically when it is, it the auto ledge grabbing... meaning olimar is just grabbing the ledge since no pikmin are in his hands?

Hope I've helped ^_^

this is somewhat known, but the exact number of pikmin that it's equal to isn't...I think. Now that I look at the video of it, it's interesting b/c Olimar still does the latch animation. Oo

Well, I'm glad I helped a bit then. I've just never seen anyone write it in their guides or mention it at all for that matter, but I figured it was known (somewhat). What I tried to do was show the full extent of the grab range :)

Well, something i've noticed (probably already known, but idk) is that if olimar does his upspecial, but doesnt have enough pikmin for them to grab the edge, and is close enough to the edge that he would normally be magnitized to it (the auto sweetspot thing), instead he just slides along the edge, and dies. With no pikmin, the magnet thing still happens, so im not sure that hes actually going higher from it, i think the magnet thing is just applying unlike usually

I think Pokerface was one of the first to discover this, but I didn't know it went THAT far :O.

EDIT: Just tried it out and it seems like the edge "sucks" Olimar towards it. lawl.

It looks like he's able to lunge himself the distance of a four-pikmin chain. Some more concrete testing on this would be helpful. I've definitely seen plenty of videos of people trying to tether with two or three and missing when they could've grabbed if they'd gotten rid of them.

Therefore: when you don't think you'll be able to easily make it back, ditch all your pikmin if you're trying to recover with less than 4.

i find it interesting that that isn't regestering a a tether, or else it would have stopped working after four times without stepping foot on stage.

i seriously doubt it does, but does this by some miracle work against edge hogging?

Posted or not, I did not know this. I normally keep all pikmin on me at all times, but sometimes they can get killed right before I'm sent off. And MANY times when I had 3 pikmin the chain would actually TOUCH the ledge and not grab it. So knowing that less than 4 means pikmin toss and super jump will improve my game that extra bit more.

I read about this on the board earlier, it's actually very useful to avoid edge guarding and to keep your opponent guessing about your recovery. If you get knocked back Far out and high up and are DI'ing to the stage you can use this to simply get back onto the stage and not have to recover by grabbing the edge so it is useful if you're slightly above the stage, but not close enough to get back on and are about to fall to your death due to edge guarding

Ok, I really don't think its any kind of super jump. If you ever go near an edge, you auto grab it, even if it doesn't look like you shoudlve, brawl just pulls the character to the edge. This doesn't apply if you just did a tether. By this, i mean that if olimar has, lets say, 1 pikmin, and he does the up special, which gives him the vertical boost, as always, but the pikmin doenst grab the edge, even if he becomes within auto-edge-grabbing distance, he will just slide on the wall if the up special was just done. With no pikmin, the game doesn't think olimar is doing a tether, it just thinks hes getting a vertical boost. Therefore, the previous thing does not apply, and the auto edge grab applies.

No other character gets sucked to the ledge that far away. Now olimars ledge pull just might be alot better than others. (if thats what your saying)
