Possible new AT for PM? Ledge Canceled Dash

So, I made a discovery while playing PM around a week ago. I did some research to make sure that this wasn't already discussed, and didn't find anything; so here it is.

Basically, you can immediately cancel your running animation by moving the control stick to the neutral position as soon as you reach the ledge. If you do it right, your character will stop dashing and immediately do his "stumbling" animation. This stumbling animation can then be immediately canceled into another move. This means...

1. You can run in to the ledge and immediately turn around.

1a. You can then wavedash off the stage for an edgehog.

1b. You can then get the best range out of a character's attack on the ledge for edgeguarding, like Fox's down smash.

1c. You can then immediately start running in the other direction.

2. You can use your halted horizontal momentum to do a short hop straight up, without moving forward.

These are just some applications for a Ledge Canceled Dash. The only problem is that you can't cancel the starting dash animation, only the running animation, meaning that you have to be a certain distance away for this to work.

Just thought that someone might find this useful.

Hm. I did know that you could cancel from a ledge into an aerial, but I figured that was because your were canceling your landing animation with your falling animation. I guess the two techniques are similar; I gave it a different name (atleast for myself) because the method of canceling seemed to be different.

Edit: Even then, the two methods of canceling are used for different purposes. Deff mentioned that the running method was already well known, though; so you would still have a point, Lordling. I just didn't see a thread mentioning this nor have I seen any videos utilizing this particular method of canceling, so I just thought it would be healthy to post this and see what other people think, on the off chance that this was actually somewhat new.

definitely still a good observation; certain characters benefit more from this than others, and being able to teeter at the ledge after running is nice for a variety of things (running off the stage into instant aerial comes into mind firsthand)

Btw you can taunt during a dash, making taunt cancelling achieve the same goals but better.

Pretty well known. But being able to immediately turn around is mostly a part of dash dancing anyways.

Do you know if it works while still in your startup-dash animation? Also, does it halt your horizontal momentum? I haven't really fooled around with taunt canceling, so I am not really sure.

Even then, you can only do that during your dash-startup. If you try turning around during the regular running animation, you slide. Although, I suppose you could just crouch cancel your dash and dash dance from there, but I think dash dashing from a ledge canceled dash is a little bit faster at the start, so there may be somewhat of an application there.

Pretty sure it does. My training partner likes to spam it as Sonic back and forth across the BF platforms in between stocks, and his dash is like twice as big as that.

Most characters can consistently dash dance just as fast as their normal running.
