...So basically, they'd make no attempt at making anything that resembles Sky World on the world map, but give a giant landmark to a GS area?

This is a great theory, however, it looks like it's larger (area to the left) than it was in the actual game. Also, why would they recycle a continent? I think it just might me a generic mountain. I hope you're right though.

"The mountain from Wind Waker"

Or more appropriately, Dragon Roost ISLAND. This follows the same logic as Death Mountain seeing that it is also volcanic and not spire-like. In fact, if you follow Zelda chronology, you could argue that it IS Death Mountain.
.
Can you find an actual picture of the central mountain? It's a spire-shaped one with a ring of clouds that is somewhat below the peak. The cloud rings are there until you beat the dungeon.

I don't ever remember there being a ring of clouds around Mt. Aleph within the actual game, so all we have on the GS side is some random initial art for the game. Plus it's hard to tell from those pictures whether or not the ring of clouds is actually below the peak of the mountain.

Still, someone brought up the argument that there are no other apparent Nintendo landmarks on the map, which questions whether or not this mountain is directly linked to a Nintendo game.

I don't think there is much else to say beyond what has already been said. We will find out soon enough.

Would someone saying "generic mountain" like to post a picture of multiple mountains that share a similar spire shape?

It would definitely help you look less foolish.
