Port forwarding for Netplay

So recently ive tried getting into playing online with my dolphin emulator, and the only problem for me is forwarding ports, i have TimeWarner as my internet provider and they use Motorola modem/routers. Now ive looked up plenty of videos showing how to forward a port but none explaining very much, they just tell you what to put and thats it. the main difference between me and those videos is my port forwarding settings give me and internal and external option so im assuming i need to fill both those out, can someone help me out with an explanation as to what i have to do? i can easily get my friends ip address but i would like to preferably host the game.

Use the latest dual core netplay build. It removes the need to forward ports and has the added bonus of running significantly faster online.
