Whenever I watch team tourneys, I always watch for moments when the fighters chain moves together into an effective offense. But when watching some other tourneys, certain teams will look more or less cohesive. That got me wondering. Who is the best partner for each character? Well, since I’m a casual Brawler, and I don’t have the expertise to judge, so why not ask the experts? I originally tried this on GameFAQs, but the users in general were immature, or not qualified to give the information. Then I remembered the specific boards on Smashboards, so I brought the poll here. So who do you think the best partner is for Pokemon Trainer?

Rules:

- The poll will last for a week. If it becomes popular, it may last longer.
- You may only vote for one character.
- Assume friendly fire is on.
- Assume there are no items.
- After posting your answer, give a detailed reason why you choose that character. If you don’t give viable information, your vote will not be added.
- You may ask to change your vote if you have a viable reason.
- Discussion on your choices is allowed. NO FLAMES!!!
- If you vote Pokemon Trainer, you must discuss details for all his pokemon.
- If you vote on the Pokemon Trainer poll, you must discuss details for all his pokemon.
- If you want to use videos to explain your reasoning, feel free to post them, but remember. I play this game casually, so you have to explain what parts of the video are important and why they are important.
- You may vote on multiple polls.
- If issues occur, I may add or remove rules, so be sure to review the list.

Dedede. PT works well on all accounts with Big characters. They can perform what Squirtle does worst, KO. They benefit from a camper like Ivysaur, helping in racking up damage. Charizard also has an extra tank to help him. In short:
Tank helps Squirtle
Ivysaur helps tank
Tank and Charizard help each other
And who is a better tank than Dedede?

If it was 4 specifics i would put falco with squirtle for the laser . Ivysaur with Luigi do too over prioritizing attacks and charizard with Yoshi do too his long range, but thats what i think : p

I don't think there's much point in stating the obvious. PT loves heavyweight partners, and the best heavyweight in the game as we know it is triple D. He's capable of getting the kills the Squirtle can't, capitalizing on leaf and seed locks by Ivysaur, and compliments Charizard as a big honking stock tank. If things aren't going so well, D3 is likely to still have an extra stock on his hands to bring in Squirtle again for cleanup duty. Not to mention that on the whole, the penguin and pokemon aren't very dangerous to each other so long as both are paying attention.

It seems my thoughts were the same. After quick consideration of PT's variety and the necessity to compliment all of that variety, I quickly concluded Dedede to be the best partner for PT. PT himself I would say comes a close second.

For Squirtle who can combo and maneuver a lot but lacks range and power, Dedede can interrupt with Waddle Dees and use his own spacing tactics to control the opponents so Squirtle can do his thing. Dedede's excellent edgeguarding abilities are even better bolstered by Squirtle's Water Gun.

For Ivysaur who plays defensively and spams Razor Leaf, a Waddle Dee/Razor Leaf barrage is quite the nuisance. This tag team is the most interesting as it basically gives Ivysaur the chance to rack up lots of damage while leaving the finishers to Dedede, who has the better options in that area. Bullet Seed also sets up for Dedede really well. Finally, Ivysaur's good at getting people off the ledge, and that's where Dedede can shine.

For Charizard who's about damage and power, the team effectively turns into a bulldozer, plowing through with brute force. Charizard's Flamethrower allows Dedede to aim F-Smash better, and equally, Dedede can use neutral A while Charizard slams with Rock Smash or his own F-Smash. Both Dedede and Charizard can edgeguard together, both perform well in the air, and both sport multiple jumps. Overall, their speed mainly suffers in this team up, but both Charizard and Dedede have their share of quick and fierce attacks to overwhelm the opposing team.

Charizard can't learn Quick Attack.

But really, Charizard's attacks are pretty fast. Everything except for like Dsmash, Fsmash, and gliding are an acceptable medium attacking speed. Just saying.

I agree on Dedede, as well, but I don't mind if my vote counts or not. I don't feel like repeating what's been said.

Well to me that is a hard decision. Other than the fact that the best team battle team up would be with a person you know that you fight with commonly, I can't really say. In my opinion any chaacter could team with PT, it just takes the right person. My firend doesn't really main with anyone, he divides his skills into many characters. I fight him frequently so teaming up with him wouldn't be a problem. Though if you are asking me about a total stranger to stranger team battle, I'm going to say I dont know and stand by my theory that any character could team with Pt depending on the person.
