I just figured it would be fun to play through both Heart Gold and the original second generation Gold Version at the same time, and post screen-shots from both of my adventures here and compare any differences that I notice! Anyone else can help to contribute if they feel like it by posting screen-shots of their Pokemon at key locations in the game (like at the first gym, their party after beating Bugsy, etc.) So basically, everyone in the Pokemon Center can more or less compare what they are doing to what others are doing, whether it be through pictures or text!
This can also be for Soul Silver with the Awesome Lugia, but this is focusing more on Heart Gold and the Majestic Ho Oh.

I'll also compile a bit of a guide to walk people through the game as I go through it.

All of this morning I couldn't stop thinking about SS, all throughout lunch, me and my friend were just on about SS/HG and how we were gonna trade version exclusives, I couldn't stop thinking about it when I got out of school, I couldn't stop thinking about it when I was in my father's office and now you got me thinking again

I would have gotten heartGold due to my love for fire types but...
I played silver a few years ago, when I was 8 and loved it. Never played gold.
Lugia is cooler (ho-ohs awesome, but its friggin LUGIA)

Everyone will be playing it at once, and since you've already played SS, you can help the new members that come in for help on the game. You've got an advantage.

This is a cool idea. The only potential problem I see is spoilers. Some people might want to see how certain areas compare but might not want to know about new areas.

Oh common really? Its a **** remake of G/S, but like 95% of the areas are still the same. The only new area I know about is

If you get REALLY REALLY REALLY picky, Gold and HG are quite different.

Some things are sligthly different sizes, and farter appart, or even sometimes closer together than Gold for asthetic reasons because of the new graphics technology. It even APPEARS that the region in itself is ever-so-slightly larger, even if only a few percent increase. Then lots of complay mechanics have been changed to simply look cooler, things added, etc. If this is a difference list its going to be very long or rather short depending on pickyness.

This is a cool idea. The only potential problem I see is spoilers. Some people might want to see how certain areas compare but might not want to know about new areas.

What Chill said is true. So you might want to keep the OP and guides under spoiler tags or collapse tags as to not spoil anything for anyone who didn't want to know.

Since I don't want to be managing two games at once (I'm horrible at that >.<) I'll only be posting up pictures of HeartGold, and no Gold pics. However, hopefully someone else can get up some other ones, and, even more hopefully, you guys don't need pictures to spot the differences.

Location: Just outside Violet City.
Status: Recovering from getting mobbed by some Ho-Oh-garbed-egg-obsessed freaky girl.

My first Pokemon. :D Alyssa seems like a good name for a Totodile.

Running Shoes button! Lets you auto-run, which is . :O Also, the start menu has moved to the bottom screen, so you can go in and do what you want without actually having to press start. Loveee itttt.

ZOMG two-floor Pokemon Center! I tripped out when I first saw it.

My Totodile is so cute. ^_^ I love the way you can communicate with your Pokemon in this game. It can really add to the atmosphere.

You ride up an elevator to take on Falkner. You can see the shadow of the platforms the leader and his trainer are standing in the background. Perfect for a Flying-type gym.

lolcrithax summed up this gym quite nicely. >.< I really wanted to do my Scary Face Bite flinchax strategy...

I'm pretty sure the windows weren't open before the fight. :o It makes it seem as if he opened them so that his Bird Pokemon could fly freely. It's cool nonetheless.

Yeah, and I'm paying for it by the amount of times its crashed. >.< I had to go through Union Cave 3 times before I was smart enough to save after it...

I'll post up more pictures after my little break (I always get really de-motivated after I lose progress in games, especially Pokemon).

I'm in just about the same place as you on my cartridge. I'm in Union cave with level 16 totodile and level 16 flaffy. Good times so far ^^

I don't remember the Windows opening up on the JP version....

Maybe it has something to do with time of day? Or maybe is a US exclusive? There ARE some US exclusive things in HGSS, from what I know, BTW.

The other two Pokemon are my HM slaves. In case you're wondering, no, this isn't a solo run, it's just I get a lot of my Pokemon quite late.

The train tracks! That's just amazing that they added that little detail in lol. It'd be even more amazing if you could see the routes you pass over while you're riding...

Here SHOULD be some pics of Slowpoke Well and Ilex Forest, but I forget to take some. >_< I really should have, cus, the Farfetch'd chase quest was changed A LOT.

Ice Fang dominated this match. :o Although I found it weird that he sent out his Scyther (his strongest Pokemon) first...is it random now?

Anyway, with Cut in hand, I have access to the Headbutt tutor, and with access to Headbutt, I have access to...

The second member of my team! I named it Patricia after a Pinsir named Patrick I had in my original Gold version that I absolutely adored.

And it has a Hasty nature because it was the best nature out of the Guts (I only want Guts) Heracross I was finding. Besides, it wasn't until 4th gen that I was even aware of natures, so blah.

And then me just playing around with Patricia:
