I once used the Project M theme, and I can confirm white is still the easiest font to read on there.

They'd had to employ a school of Wishiwashi to pull the raft this morning. The very tides around Isle Abeens were beginning to still and reverse.
"It's just a seasonal change," Mohn reassured his pair of Poké passengers. "Trade winds coming in from the north, happens every year around this time. Give it a month or two, everything'll be back to normal."
Meowth sensed more of this was made up on the spot than wasn't, but they said nothing. It already seemed that every trip out to the isle seemed to stretch longer than the last one, and their early spirits had given way to an almost apathetic dread. They couldn't allow themselves to feel anymore on these trips, they told themselves, at least not until everything was over. Not until they didn't have to wake up in a sweat, wondering who they'd lose today.
The morning roundup went surprisingly smoothly, however. Minutes after landing, everyone was in place.
Meowth gave a weary chuckle. I guess that's one good thing about this, they thought. Lose a few friends, it gets real easy to round up everybo-
That's when it hit them. Everybody.
Meowth redid their head count once again. And again. Four times through, they turned and grasped Pikachu roughly by the shoulders, shaking him in excitement.
: Everyone's here! We haven't lost any from last night!
Meowth released the startled mouse, who toppled backwards from the force. They launched Tyranitar's ball with the first glee they'd had in days (though the freed beast showed none itself). And their stance as they addressed the survivors was nothing short of triumphant.
: If they couldn't make a move last night, we have to be getting closer! Come on everyone, it's time to end this!
Day Four has begun. You have 24 hours.
