In the context of Pokémon both Self-Destruct and Explosion are self-KOing moves that deal damage.
Explosion's just Self-Destruct on steroids.

So how that could be Desparado of all things makes no sense.

That's fine.

The side male characters are always the only interesting ones in harem anime. They're cursed with never finding love because everyone wants the "alpha male" protagonist, but that's a price I'm willing to pay to not be one-dimensional wish fulfillment.
