I'm from a small town in East Kentucky and in my immediate area, I only have a small circle of smashers that know the game particularly well. I have a local game store but they have a fixed outlook on Magic the Gathering and avoid video games tournaments. I was looking for a push in the right direction where I could find any active tournaments that are held within driving distance?

I'm not sure exactly where in East Kentucky you are, but there are groups around. They have a weekly tournament in Ironton, OH (really close to Ashland). Check that out here: http://smashboards.com/threads/jun-...-2-weekly-at-epic-gaming-ironton-ohio.357944/

Also check out their Facebook group(s): https://www.facebook.com/groups/KyOhWVa.Smash/

And the regional forum on smashboards is good too: http://smashboards.com/forums/midwest.92/
Tho that includes all of the midwest, so relevant information is harder to come by.

Ah ok. So Ironton is probably too far away. Then your best bet is to join those groups and see if anyone is nearby. It might also be worth looking for eastern TN or western VA. Having a group you play with is really important, because you might have to travel some to find to tournaments. Once you can find some people reasonably close to you, then maybe you could look into starting up a local biweekly tournament of sorts (if only that game store would help! Those are the most common venues I would think), and that might bring out some more people.

But yeah, if you're willing to travel some, there are plenty of tournaments within 2-3 hours.
