I just found out my parents are making me go to socal for the weekend of the 25th for my sister's birthday thing or something.

and i don't wanna host it the 18th cuz of SFSU. so canceled at the moment v_v.

I've been wanting to be able to hold monthly tournaments for a WHILE, but I haven't been able to do due to lack of venue (since my house isn't a viable location anymore -_-). So after going to this party at my girlfriend's clubhouse (since she lives in a apartment complex, which is where the last tourney I held was at), I found out that the clubhouse is free (following a $500 deposit). Seeing as the place is about 3 times the size of my living room, I thought, why not host a tournament there?

So after conversing w/ my gf, I've decided to host a monthly tournament in that location.

The first date is still pending but expect it in early February (since I hafto book the location in advance, my gf hasto be there the whole time, but she has work sat's til feb.)

I'll put up ALL info when I have a guaranteed date (this includes location).

AT THE MOMENT this will be MELEE-ONLY. If I see that there is enough interest for brawl (at least like 25 people), then I will make it Melee and Brawl.
Til then, heres everything else:

Schedule:

Tournaments will almost always occur on Saturdays (unless noted otherwise). Sign ups for the first event will be at 11:00, and will end at 12:00. If your name is not signed up by 12 (and you have not told me you will be late ahead of time) you will not be entered. No exceptions, if you must be late, call telling me so that I may save you a spot. Sign ups for the later events will begin once the event prior is in the later rounds.
Order of events will be such:
Melee Doubles
Melee Singles

Payout:
Since this is a local event the sign up costs will be pretty inexpensive. $7 for singles, and $12 for teams (or $6 per member). If other events are hosted (aka crews and etc), expect entry to be $5 per member.
It was originally going to be 5 for singles and 10 for doubles, but I added 2 dollars to each so that those 2 dollars will go to helping me pay for the venue. So the original 5 and 10 will still go 100% into the pot.
Pay out will be 60% for first, 30% for second and 10% for third place.

Rules:

Singles:
4 Stock
8 Minute Time Limit
Items Off
Best 2 out of 3
Finals best 3 out of 5
Double Elimination
Ties will be determined by lowest percentage

Doubles:

Ties will be determined by lowest percentage

i approve
and will go
someone will need to pick me up from the closest caltrain

good job luis !!
you could take caltrain to hillsdale, then from there take 251, and one of the stops for 251 is right infront of the where the tournament will be held.

only problem is that the last bus to and from foster city (251) doesn't run very late, so you'd need a ride back to caltrain.

cool beans

what are the expenses? does that mean food will be provided or what?
that means we'll probably sell soda and stuff. theres a chipotle right next to the place, along w/ a round tables pizza, and a pho place. the rest will go to deposit (since i don't want my gf paying for some of it aka guilt, even though she likes smash).

well i mean you should just say 10% goes to pay for the "venue" then (aka your girlfriend)

people don't have a problem with paying the venue, they just want honesty about it :), especially if it's only 10%

So I'm confused as to is the venue free or is $500 or is it you put $500 down if nothing gets ****ed up then you get your $500 back? In which case of the last one mentioned the 10% would just be for providing the venue and if for what ever reason the deposit was not given back. When could we expect the first one?

the venue requires a deposit of $500 to book. and seeing as getting that much money that is strictly mine is a problem I'll be taking 10% from the pot to help with the weight of the deposit so that I'll be solely responsible for the deposit.

think of it as a venue fee until I can totally "pay off" the venue. so after several tourneys and I get enough money to cover the deposit myself I will stop taking from the pot.

or I could always charge a dollar or two at the door so that the entirity of the pot goes to top 3. but I'd rather not do that cuz it's a hassle and I don't wanna charge ppl more, even though I'll be able to "pay off" the venue faster that way.

I haven't decided yet but for now I'll just take a bit from the pot.

expect the first in early to mid February. it all hinges on being able to cover the deposit. once I get enough from the pot over the span of several tourneys then there should be no problems at all.

we can only reserve once at a time. so the second the tourney passes I can book the next one. so there will be no 100% schedule, BUT the venue is rarely booked/used so having a consistent monthly period between tourneys shouldn't be a problem.

Oh btw, after some discussion w/ my gf, I think I may infact include Brawl as well.

Only so that more people will show up, more people will enter, more money that I can use to pay off the deposit faster.

Brawl's appearance will all be based on the amount of interest Brawl would bring in. So if you want Brawl too, tell me. I hear enough voices and I'll add it too.

are you going to have the setups to cover two games?
I did the first time I hosted at my house. I had 3 TVs I used in my house, and the rest were brought by others. I had enough set ups where I had enough time to run melee singles and brawl singles w/ time to spare.

And the venue comes w/ 2 TVs already and my gf can bring two from her place which is right by the venue. That along w/ the TVs I can bring from my house comes out to 7 TVs just from me.

I'll ask people (San Pablo) to bring more TVs once I have a solid date, but 7 is a very good starting number IMO.

For the sake of time I'll begin w/ one game and then convert the TVs to the other game. So probably Brawl first, and then turn all the Brawl TVs to Melee (except for a few to keep for friendlies).

Ugh, I don't like saying this, but I'd probably play in brawl too

EDIT: Also just wondering, what are the possibilities of side tournaments with other games? Get some 3s in or some other 2D fighter

Actually Luis, that tourny last time had a fairly low turnout, hence why you had enough TVs.

But im sure you'll have enough this time, if you get enough people to bring setups.

I'll allow Pavo if
1. He plays a character that doesn't have a dumb up b
or
2. He doesn't misfire on command. You've got to admit, getting hit by a reverse side b has got to be hacks and Pavo is a walking GameShark.

Dude set a date. I can't just come down any time I want.

so i don't wanna have the date up forever, and then for some reason hafto cancel or anything.

it'll be up 2/3 weeks in advance.

k after a lengthy conversation, we've finally come up with a date.

it was originally planned to be the 28th of this month, but then i kept hearing about conflicting tournaments.... and then the only time open in march was the 21st, and imma be at mango juice (like all the rest of you norcal-ians should be).

so the date is.... APRIL 18th?

why am i saying it so early? just so i can say i have a date and ppl won't ask me. plus they have no excuse not to go, b/c i'm telling you A GOOD AMOUNT in advance.

oh and in the conversation my gf and i decided that the best way to cover the deposit cost is charging a $2 venue fee. so singles = 7 (5 to pot, 2 to venue) and doubles = 12 (10 pot, 2 venue).
