All right, these are our first two recorded matches. We're not n00b, and we've been playing for a while using advanced techniques. Please watch, critique, and comment our matches. Thanks.

Match 1: RebellionASG(White Marth) vs. Wood(Blue Marth) Final Destination
http://youtube.com/watch?v=HPBeiO3NqxI

Match 2: RebellionASG(Marth) vs. BOSS(Link) Pokemon Stadium
http://youtube.com/watch?v=BmMbv9anbG0

PS. We used a DVR to record. :) the qualities pretty good, so we're happy

Also, please don't flame, or call us nubs, as we have been playing for a while but really only have 3-5 good people to play against, so we counter each other pretty well. Some advice would be well appreciated :)

For the record, this is also posted in the Videos Section under 1v1 matches, so if the admins feel this is in the wrong spot, feel free to lock it down. I just figured I would post it in here to get some advice specific to Marth.
Thanks again.

I just watched the one vs. Link. Don't know much about your characters, but since you posted this in chat I felt the need to reply.

Link: L cancel!!! Use spin attack less, projectiles and n-air more.

Marth: Wavedash more, roll less.

EDIT: This info is on the ditto.

Your marth is decently fast but he does semi risky things. Like going for the ken combo quite alot, if you miss it, you can find yourself being screwed over. The bair while hanging on the ledge works well but you have to be precise with it or you'll find yourself dying against someone smart.

Try to combo your attacks into an f-smash at lower damages for an edgeguard. Don't let him get high damage or your combos will become useless. if he does reach that damage, don't try to land a laggy f-smash, a simple f-tilt or nair will set him up for edgeguarding.

In marth ditto edgeguarding, Either space yourself well during his up-b and f-smash him as you edgeguard or get close and cc his up-b and d-tilt him.

Dash dancing was good, also try wavedashing out of it into an f-smash, surprising!

If the marth is advancing on you from above, up-tilt, it'll go through his attacks and pop up him.

A good starting combo at 0% in marth dittos is f-throw, f-throw, up-throw, up-tilt then do whatever you want, if it be trying for other up-tilt or taking to the air.

This may sound odd but don't always grab out of your dash dances or jump out, start dash attacking, you're getting predictable with dash dancing.

if you do accidently up-smash, most of the time it will pop them up for an f-smash

During the last stock, both of you felt the pressure and were jerky, the ledgehopped dair was risky but paid in full.

Excessive wavedashing messed up your spacing a lot. Try not to use it so much. Running or even walking is fine... in fact, walking is the best spacing tool in Marth's ground game. If your opponent is right in front of you, go for the grab. Do NOT Fsmash, as it won't deal much damage or knockback.

When your opponent is directly above you, the Nair isn't the safest option as Marth has a weak spot which is above and slightly to the right of his head. Utilt or Uair would be better since they have a lot of priority overhead.

Foward smash less. You shouldn't go for the F-smash unless your opponent is actually set up for it.

Work on your spacing. I got the feeling that you don't even know how far half of your moves reach. Learn the range of all your moves and where each one of them knocks your opponent (including the different trajectories for a tipped attack vs a non-tipped attack.) It was just weird when you missed 3 f-smashes on Link after he missed a grab.

You did miss a few L-cancels here and there and you need to practice it a little more.

Use more aerials. Marth is more of an air fighter than a ground one. (don't go too far from the ground though)

Your recovery could use some work too. Save your second jump so that you've still got it if you get hit while trying to recover. Use fairs to hit your opponent and swat projectiles to prevent being edgeguarded. You should time your recovery so that you are at the ledge at the peak of your up B. This makes it much harder to edgeguard you and would've prevented that light shield edgehog that Link pulled on you. The light shield edgehog does work with some characters even if your properly sweet spotting, but I don't think link falls fast enough for it to work for him.

Marth is arguably the best edgeguarder in the game and you should use some of his many edgeguarding options. (besides F-Smashing) D-tilt makes a wonderfull edgeguard and should cover most of your edgeguarding needs. It comes out fast and has little lag so if you miss you can easily avoid being punished. A SHFFL'd dair is flashy and effective if you learn to time it properly. Be carefull about them teching it though, because you'll be very close to the ledge and they could hit you with their up B if it's fast enough. Ledgehop Bairs and even Dairs make good edgeguards if spaced properly. Neutral B is a good on the stage and off the stage edgeguard so try using it every now and then. It's kinda like an aerial foward smash.

One last thing. I didn't see you Short hop double fair that often. It's a nice tactic for comboing and you should work on putting it into your air game after you get the other things down.

I mean. Not meant to flame, but until you understand that you are noobs (for the moment at least), your progression as smashers will likely be slower than it could otherwise be. A big thing in this game is mindset, and if you go into it thinking that you are at all better than you really are, you are going to be slowed. Just because you have been playing for a while, practicing advanced techs, whatever, doesn't graduate you from noob status.

That said, you really need to focus on expanding your overall Marth game to things outside of smash attacks. In general, Marth's forward smash is worthless unless you lead into it, or at least like... and I use this term lightly... "mindgame" into it.

Also, just because you are moving your character back and forth, doesn't mean you are dash dancing. DD is a technique used for a purpose, mainly to remove predictability from your movements, as well as keep you active. You two sitting there moving back and forth together is cute, but stupid.

Also, learn to edgeguard >.> There was a situation where one Marth was off the stage completely, and the other just runs to the middle of the stage.

Anywho, I'll critique it more later if you want. I don't remember much else from the matches as they were kinda bland. Good choice in music on that first one though

hahahahaha, I was going to watch these vids but I decided not to after reading Cactars post. Not worth my time.

Sorry to be mean, I just need to be every now and then. But Cactur knows what he is talking about so take his advice.

LOL, that was painful... Husband and I have dittoed blindfolded before and it looked better that.

Honestly, you both just need to watch more videos and play against better people. About 95% of what you and your friend did during that match doesn't actually work.

i have to agree with husbad/Cactuar

yes, you can "wavedash" and yes, you can "dash dance" ; now learn when to.....................

you should pick it up pretty fast........ play a power ranked fox and you'll see what i mean........

you have all the tech stuff down (or so you say) now you gatta get into the game.............

im far from good and ive only actually played one person that can be considered good, but once you play with someone who knows how to mindgame well, you'll change your style of play.............. no joke.............................
