Playing with items on

Well I think items are very much ignored on the pro scene and I think a thread like this should be necessary to talk about it.
I know it can be so unfair and stuff but... Anybody likes playing with Items? You can do amazing stuff with them. There you have item combos, item mindgames and item strategies...

Oh and obviously its really rare to find a uploaded video on the net of top playing with Items... So far this is the only pack of vids (this is one of 5) I found on the net

Items are extremely fun to mess around with. Playing MEGA FFA's (4p, ffa, items on very high, no health items or stars) with the golf club is fun.

I also play another game with a few friends where we have items on very high with mines, bombs, and bumpers.

I do like 1 v 1's no items better, but it's nice to refresh the game a little bit.

Yeah bomb battles are fun also Pokemon battles with only pokeballs on very high. Although some items like the star the hammer or the heart can completely change a game.

I can imagine 1 or 2 stock with only Hearts on very high might be interesting.

Items really add humour to the game, nothing like dodging that fan to have it bounce around uselessly whacking you in the face unexpectedly. When it comes to 1v1 matches though, I much prefer to have no items. In FFA it's fine because you expect to be hit by the unexpected, and as I said, it can be pretty hilarious to be owning players 2 and 3 then player 4 throws a Pokeball at you, knocking you off the stage, and a little Goldeen useless fish jumps out of the pokeball. In 1v1, if a good item appears near to one player, all of a sudden that player has the unfair advantage just because he was in the right spot at the right time. And no one likes an unfair match.

Wasnt there a game with 2vs2 and star rods a looong time ago...i cant remember much about it...because i only played it once and only like 3 weeks after i first started...the SG crew played it a bit though

That's why you don't play seriously with items. If your worried about a games result that much, I'm guessing you think friendlies matter a lot too, huh.

I do the occasional items matches on kaillera. :p Nothing bad about em, just keep em out of serious matches. :o

All in all every game in the Smash Series is incredibly versatile and intended for many different forms of play. Different environments and people allow for different types of play to suite everyones needs to make sure everyone has a good time. That said, items are great if you want to have them on.

No, I never use items now in any of the three games. The beam sword was really awesome though.

I occasionally play with items, usually when its with a friend or I'm fooling around, but I tend to keep them off. This is for all three games, but mainly for brawl, since it isn't fun when someone gets a dragoon. I want to see moar vids of the pros with items, since you really do never see them.
