How do you play consistently? At the Palmdale tournament yesterday, I was on and off the whole time. I don't get it. Is it a psychological thing (how I'm feeling when I'm playing)?

Psychological more than anything, especially for you.

Try meditating. It helps me stay calm a lot, and after yesterday I'm gonna start getting into it again.

Mind and body are one. I've played my best when I'm healthiest -- eating well, working out, meditating, sleeping well, not doing a bunch of drugs. (This is probably my biggest weakness. :() I was watching Starcraft and Tasteless, the commentator, was saying he was at his highest rank when he was working out four times a week and eating healthy. **** makes a big *** difference.

^ That.

Also, make sure that your head is in the game in EVERY match you play. I can imagine how stressful and tiresome it can be to completely concentrate throughout an ENTIRE tournament but you really, REALLY have to work on it. Don't let your mind wander after you take the first stock. Always be attentive and always play like it's your last stock (this is something I can actually thank Brawl for).

Also, make sure you go into a match confident. Ignore what screw ups happened in the match before or w/e. Just play confidently, and attentively. That way you'll find you self pushing your limits and playing your best all the time.

being consistent is fukken boring. i always beat/lose to the exact same people every tourny....
i wish i could be like tofu and beat amazing people sometimes like zhu lunin and tang but lose to people like embrace sometimes LOL

me being a brat aside
i think being consistent just comes down to how comfortable you are. if you're really nervous or overthink the match you might *** up more. but if you just treat it lightly you can just go robot mode and not lose to people worse than you

everything everyone said plus try not push through frustration. its really hard. if you are getting frustrated you are gonna lose quality of play and more importantly decision making.

like mew2king said. have fun, and youll do your best.

Warm up beforehand as much as possible

Confidence helps a ton, but I haven't been able to control it yet.

Play like DSF. What I mean by this is be patient and wait for your openings, don't jump way off the stage and do risky stuff. If the opening isn't there, don't attack, just wait for the next opportunity.

Try harder to win. Where do you want to be? As of Feb 9th (first PR update) I wanted to get ranked so I decided I would not lose to noobs anymore. I did not allow myself to lose to any unranked players at all. Then focus on trying to beat the people better than you. The only unranked player I have lost to since Feb 9th is Pit, who I beat back in losers last week in SD. Pit also beat Tofu, and while Tofu most likely would have beat Pit too if he got a second chance, it shows that Pit wasn't a complete joke.

the saying, "whoever wants it more will win" is more than just wishing you could win, it brings a lot of other benefits along with it. determination goes a long way. It's hard to keep up that determination sometimes, especially when you don't have a REAL goal, but the mindset carries on subconsciously even after you've completed your goal.

Connor, you're really ****ing good, you just need to keep your head in the game. Don't think, "wow i'm beating zhu!" or "crap i just suicided, i have to **** this stock quickly". Instead focus on, "Last time he baited me into his uptilt, i'll make him do it again then shine him off the stage after" or "he runs and dtilts to approach, i'll jump over it with a dair so i can waveshine and grab" In-game strategy > real-world outcome

This is just what has helped me recently.

i get nervous against certain people/characters

usually has to do with my win record against them
i dont get nervous against people i usually beat (which helps me continue to beat them)
but when i try to beat someone and cant i get nervous when i play them ( the only person atm is tofu)

i also get nervous when i play against peach and mario bros.
my comfort matchups are falcon, marth and puff

kick my ****

what I find helps me play consistently is playing as much as possible at a tournament, before and during my brackets matches

that way you can get into a rhythm and feel yourself out as a player no homo
