Also, typically when learning smash bros, people figure out that it's usually a bad idea to challenge your opponent from above, so this isn't really an instinctual strategy.

As mentioned, people dont like to camp. There are people who do camp though, but generally its frowned upon but considered a viable strategy to win. Zanguzen and Westballz in that one match has done this, but most players don't really camp the top platform too much. It can be a way to reset neutral or give yourself a breather though. Most higher level spacies which are the ones capable of executing this tactic tend to prefer pressing buttons and attack the opponent which this doesnt do.
