Spacing isn't as good, the hit is a little slower (though that can be a good thing sometimes), and you're less technical.

Otherwise, damage is the same.

Why pivot when you can jump cancel?

Pivot > jump cancel solely because it can be done on moves that can't be jump cancelled.
