Background
All right folks, I'm finally getting on the ball and trying to maybe throw together a tournament in Pittsburgh before Brawl comes out. From what I've heard, the ideal venue would most likely be the CCYO building, but I'm also looking into collaborating with my University's Online Gaming Society to find a venue on campus. Rose has graciously supplied me with the information about the CCYO's availability and so without further ado:

+ every sunday this month and next month. NOTE that there *might* be restrictions on what sundays this could happen on, since saturday events would need to dismantle.
+ this saturday, the 23rd. No other saturday until late march.
Now, generally speaking, I'm against Sunday tournaments for a good number of reasons, but seeing as how the clock's running out on melee, I'd rather have a Sunday tourney than a Post-Brawl tourney, since I doubt we'd be able to get any local or casual interest in melee once brawl comes out. If we do it the weekend before brawl though, then we can have "last melee tournament before Brawl" hype which might get people out for one last tournament.

WE NEED A DATE, HELP ME DECIDE
The important thing for right now is to nail down when people are available and figure out when makes the most sense for this tourney. As I see it, we have 4 options:

1. Scramble to get this thing together for this Saturday (2/23)
2. Scramble to get this thing together for this Sunday (2/24)
3. Get it together by next Sunday (3/2)
4. Get it together post Brawl in late March (some weekend that's not SPOC)

So people, if you're interested in coming to a tourney in Pittsburgh, please let me know which of these options works for you ASAP. I'd really like to know soon, especially since these dates are very soon.

Also, let me know if any of the following specs would need to be changed:
Ideal Start Time
Doors Open: 10:00/11:00
Doubles Start: 12:00
Singles Start: 30-60 minutes after doubles finishes (to let people get food between the two)

Tourney Format
< 32 entrants : Manually seeded double elimination bracket.
32 + entrants : 1 round of Pools for seeding followed by double elimination bracket (no one out after pools, simply use it for seeding).

Entrance Fee
Singles: $10/person
Teams: $10/team

I'll post specific rules for the tourney once we get this more general stuff nailed down, but I don't want people to be debating whether you should be able to ban neutrals or reset random, etc etc etc, when we don't even have a date yet.

I'm done rambling for now, discuss.

I'm happy with a Sunday tournament, I was thinking about going to VA for one of Chu's last biweeklies so maybe I'll go down there and then back up to Pittsburgh. I won't want to go home though... so I might stay
at Pittsburgh until like Tuesday LOL.

LOL@ Taki First Post I win.

I'm fine with either sunday or saturday.

I'm in favor of whichever day brings the MOST entrants. Also of course expect me to be there.

Bro, you know you're always welcome here. Stay all week, we can play one big CF ditto on YS.

Yes, this is the most important thing by far.

Also, Scar owns you at posting.

Sunday or saturday sounds good to me.

Uhh this is gonna sound SUPER lame but could we lower the entry fee to like 8 dollars lol?
Its not biggy its just the last tourney i went to i ran out of cash and nearly died of starvation.

But either way count a least 2 butler kids to show.

$8 is terribly inconvenient and difficult as an entrance fee. Multiples of 5 is clearly the way to go. Most people won't travel for a $5 tourney too, so I think $10 is probably right where the entrance fee should be.

Also, does this mean you're available for all of the proposed dates?

I'd like to come to this, and my only problems are this saturday and finding a ride. Also, I finally bought my own controller, so I won't need to bum one

edit: assuming taki makes a sweet banner for it

edit2: just to clarify, what the guy ACTUALLY said was "how do you like dr. mario now?"

I feel like I'm missing this reference... Either way, it's a pretty sweet name and I supposed I'd be on board for it.

Let's talk about it tomorrow at Duq and figure out what we want to call it. I'm pretty sure next Sunday will be the day, so I'm gonna try to contact Rose and see if we can get the place reserved so that I can start to worry about all the other details.

Smashdoomsday. If that's not the name of this tournament then I'm pretty sure it's going to be the subtitle for SPOC5.
