Pittsburgh CyberConXion Smash Event (2v2 and 1v1) 1/28/07

Start the new year with another Smash Tourney at Pittsburgh CyberConXion. Once again we will host a "friendly" 2v2 and a $$ prize 1v1 competition. Mark the date--Sunday January 28th. The prize pot will remain at the scaled up 70% based on the number of competitors--so more smashers the better!

Fields: 2v2 "friendly" Single Elimination
1v1 Double Elimination

Rules: MLG (Best 2/3, Final Best 3/5)
Time: Player Sign In @ 11am
2v2 Competition Begins @ noon
1v1 Compeitions Begins @ 1:30

Fees: $15 per Player (includes both events)

Prizes: Scaled Pot up to 70% of Entry Fees
First Place 60% of prize pot
Second Place 30% of prize pot
Third Place 10% of prize pot

Every registered player receives a $10 "Buy One, Get One Free" discount coupon which entitles you to get up to a $10 match from Pittsburgh CyberConXion for time purchased. Remember college students receive 40% discount for hourly play.

I really didnt mean to let you win really, i just knew my mario was horrible(now decent), but i stupidly decided to go for it anyways. The worse part of that was the fact that I SD'd on my last life(really important). I have figured out that the controller for that day was not mine, but a crappy one. Oh well no johns i guess.

Lol, it's cool. I usually used to be all over the place with my characters. Alan told me to be Mario in my 2nd match with you because I used to play Doc. =/ I thought I was going to get mauled...we all know your Fox is a mutha****in' beast. And I took advice from Wes...I actually cared enough to sit down and practice wding and shffling. -Gasp!- Hopefully I'll be able to put up a little more of a fight his time 'round. (I'm workin' on Marth at the moment...)

I'd say there's a really good chance I'll play. I like tournaments too much to miss one.

I should be there... and if anyone is wondering who i am i was at one of these tournaments about a few months ago like or november i was the one that placed second....also how do the teams thing work rules ect. thanks in advance

good time all. **** Justin, I really should have just hit you while floating there. I still can't figure out how I missed :(. Kinda lame how Rob and I couldn't even finish our match that was down to 1 stock before they kicked us out. Also, really lame bracketing having Naka, Pocky, Rob, Justin, and myself on one side and um, Tim and 2 5-year olds on the other :p. Naka, I hope your tournies are all we hope they can be so that we can stop settling for this. I mean, you can do worse than Cybercon, but some of this is rediculous. . . Why couldn't we at least finish the match? Why is there such terrible bracketing every time?

On the bright side, we had a better turnout this time... I hope we can keep that trend going. We can't really complain about the pot size this time ethier, it was good.

on another note:
FYI I dont know if it was me worrying about lag all the week b4, or them using spilters or whatever, but umm from my perspective there wasnt any lag. I main space animals and feel that I can get a good sense of whether theres lag or not. I know that its taki's department but once again I didnt feel any lag what so ever.

i will try to make to make it to duquesne whenever i can but i'm on the club volleyball team and we always have matches friday nights and my class doesn't end till 430. I also have a couple of friends who are rising to become competitive players and want to show up as well.

wes and kevin s: CMU represent! LOL @ double DK on mushroom kingdom II. we need to play on campus sometime

In november there was a matter about the store owner being dishonest and shorthanding the winners on there winnings. That is COMPLETELY FALSE. In november i made second place and recieved 35$, in which i was supposed to recieve 45$. This was due to an error in the spreadsheet and had absolutely nothing to do with the store owner cheating. When I brought this to his attention he paid me the 10$ with no questions asked. They have great tournaments up there and i will continue to go.

The tournament this time was great.....

Swiftbass is just too good!

it wasn't just the missing money; it was the way they reacted to it

someone brought it up on the boards (velocity i think?) and the store people (whoever posts here) immediately went on the defensive, which is a little but understandable, but then iirc he went and attacked the people that accused the store of mishandling the winnings (which they did; spreadsheet or not, it's the store's responsibility to catch that mistake and they should understand that they will deservedly be blamed for any mishaps)

if all that had happened was

player: hey you shortchanged us
store: you're right, your check is in the mail, we apologize

it would've been all fine and dandy



**** bracket of death though; tim was one lucky SOB

yea, not to hate or anything, but that was an easy path to the finals, Tim. You're still the best smasher in Pittsburgh, but ****, you should have to work for it a little more. I mean, also, I got to pick DK against the dude I played in the semis and my DK is barely playable. Bracketing needs to improve a lot. I shouldn't have to struggle through Kevin and Rob only to 2 stock Falco with DK in the semis.

on another note, turning off the screen for no reason and no warning midmatch when it would've likely finished in under a minute was a truly stupid thing to do, and even though i wasn't playing, it got me legitimately angry

It just kinda sucked how 5 of the top 6 or 7 players (arguably of course) had to play each other in the first 2-3 rounds. Seriously... PockyD vs Naka and Rob vs Justin round 1? Wesley vs PockyD and Wesley vs Rob rounds 2 and 3 (respectively)? That's just plain brutal. Those are all worthy of being final four matches.

EDIT: I think Wesley actually considers himself lucky that the projector was shut off... Young Link clearly had the momentum going into the last stock.

ur IC'ds are hard and I hate thinking about how not to shuffle into them, but facing them is a different challenge, so in hindsight i truly dont mind. :cool:


yeah, an easy ride for me this time.(heynivek, byaa were competent tho) perhaps next month wont be so easy and pockyD wont get ***** in the setting of the bracets.

I say they should do peliminaries for a top 4 and do a round robin, or perhaps that would take too long.

Take too long? If we remove 2v2s, we'd have time to have pools and all that official stuff (I dunno how it works). If the bracket is seeded, that would solve that problem.

I don't care what anyone says, pocky. I love Roy vs ICs.

Edit:

Oh, and sorry for Fritz and myself not making it. Transportation became a problem last-minute. Regardless, doesn't sound like we missed too much. :p
