Hey everyone. I wanted to make this topic to discuss our favorite rat's edge guarding potential.
Now with all of these advantages, he does have a few weaknesses
Regardless, I believe that Pikachu has more than enough tools to become an off-stage monster. Mastering his off-stage game should be vital to playing Pikachu at the high level effectively. Feel free to share any insights whether it be general knowledge or anything character specific.
- Insane recovery (both vertically and horizontally) and new ledge trumping mechanic allows him to go balls deep with relatively little risk
- Lingering hitboxes with his Bair, Fair and Nair can intercept certain recoveries
- Ability to wall jump
- Thunder gives him very good coverage against high recoveries
- Quick attack ledge cancelling allow him quickly get to the ledge from half the length of FD
- Thunder jolt hugs the stage and can easily punish ledge campers
Now with all of these advantages, he does have a few weaknesses
- None of his aerials can actually kill unless the opponent is at a very high percent
- All of his aerials (and Thunder) can actually send the opponent towards the stage if misplaced/mistimed
- Whiffing a Bair almost guarantees that the opponent making it back because of its long duration. Fortunately, he has safer options in is Nair and Uair
- Edgeguarding teleporting characters like Zelda or Sheik is extremely difficult
