Pichu better than Pikachu?

My friend has always said that pichu is better than pikachu in melee, I test this out but instead we win some matches and will lose some matches and it seems almost even. Does anyone know if he is better or worse than pikachu? thanks

The first thing I think of for why Pichu is inferior is range...I leave that as my brief answer.

As to why it comes out even, my guesses are that you have not completely mastered each character or that they are similar and the match-up is not skewed in one direction.

I think it is the first one, though.

Pichu is lighter (and his recovery doesn't really benefit from it much), his attacks damage him (but most good Pichu players tend to use attacks that get around this), and his range is even worse than Pikachu's.

Pikachu is better.

Pichu is more fun to play.

fun is subjective.

i find pika more fun than pichu because pika can actually do stuff like kill and combo. pichu has movement tricks and 2 taunts though.
