Guys if you lose to spammers, there's only two possible explanations:

1. You're bad

2. The game's design rewards spamming heavily, so the game is bad.

So don't be mad at the spammers, be mad at yourself or at the game. If it's number 1, stop *****ing and actually get better. If it's number 2, stop playing the game and play a game whose engine you actually like (like Melee lol).

I never thought I'd say it, but I've started enjoying playing a match against a spammer.

Take Charizard for example. Flare blitz, all day. I didn't know what to do at first but as our matches went on, I let him keep doing it over and over until I learned the mechanics of it and how to punish or defend against it. (Other examples: link projectile spam, anyone-with-a-counter spam, etc.)

Don't ditch because it's all they do. Observe, learn, grow as a player. Then, when someone skilled throws the move into their mixup at a tournament, you can be more prepared.
That's what I'm trying to do, but I always expect something else later in the match, but I generally still win anyway. I've already implemented counters to rolls (still working on behind me though) and counters mainly.

That's why I think I suck when I lose: I think I'm bad because I can't win against them. I'm trying to get over it, but a lot easier said than done. Especially when I already beat myself up over getting a C on a quiz.

Technically, if you're falling for the same thing over and over again, you're bad in a way. You can be good in other ways, but you can be bad in a few areas too and still do well against most, yet you can do nothing against spammers. That is if spamming isn't rewarded.

There is a genuine difference between spamming and having skill while mixing in spam. One can easily be countered by getting close and staying close, the other seems to be spamming while actually trying to draw you into the correct distance to go for a move.

...And here am I thinking that I sucked playing today. I lost many matches for the 3 hours I played in For Glory and only won like 8. The funny thing is some people were doing some pretty obvious moves. I can't do anything about it because of either lag, whiffing an attack, or because of today being my off day.

For example, there was this Greninja I fought who relied on Up-Special gimps and stage spiking. This guy was somewhat solid in other areas, but as time went on, I started to notice the player's patterns. Even when I did, however, Greninja would move too fast for my attacks to be in range. Did I forget to mention how laggy the matches are with Greninja? Maybe he was just plain good, but still.

Another one was Rosalina. I figured out Rosalina relied on using that gravity-altering down special.

How about Bowser Jr.? Relied on specials too much, especially side special.

Pit? Relied on spamming Palutena's Arrow (standard special).

Yet I couldn't really stop them. It made me feel as if I didn't have control of my character and the lag only amplified that. Sure, it may take me a while to read someone's moves and properly punish accordingly, but I just can't help but feel that way. I'm probably just spoiled by playing Project M for almost 2 years, although I think I've adjusted to Smash 4 just fine.

tl;dr I think I'm just bummed out from being battered left and right for a couple of hours with only a few victories in between. I'm no Mew2King, but I'm still practicing!

Yeah, both of us are no Mew2Kings! As for now, I'm just going to take it as the online doesn't like me today.

While I agree it takes time to develop sufficient skill, I must argue that M2K was noted as the best player in the world during a time. People like Gimpyfish/Eggz/Waffles have been playing since melee, have attended tournaments, have sufficient over experience and can adapt to changing tactics from their opponents.
He didn't start out that way. Watch The Smash Bros. Documentary and pretty much all the players who talk about M2k say he is very much not a natural, some even said he started out a scrub. He's just memorized every detail to the letter, and M2k himself admits he's probably spent over 2000 hours studying frame data. This is probably why he despises online play, because everyone's lag is different, and even minute lag that we might not notice can throw him off considerably.

Even Korean DJ, who himself was once best player in the world, and was the man behind the curtain in Karissa the Destroyer, didn't start out good. He was no prodigy. He would money match all the top players for 5 dollars, and get utterly destroyed... but the money was just a ploy to prevent them from sandbagging, because he wanted them to play at their very best so he could learn from them, and eventually, it paid off.

The only way to get good is with good old fashioned practice. The only player who had a meteoric rise was Mango, and he is definitely the exception. M2k is not someone to look at and say, "aw, man, I'll never be THAT good," he's the guy you point to and say, "if HE can get that good, so can I." The real question is, how bad do you want it?

Stuff like this is why I quit trying to learn competitive. I'll never be good. I'm always "bad."

I deposit a question. Do you think its better to learn the ins and outs of one character to the extent you "know" their effective range and frame response, or too try multiple characters to broaden ones adaptability and technique?

It's actually dumb not to compare yourself to the top players. If you're just content with beating the people at your level, you'll never improve. You have to admit you suck, and then work to rectifying the fact that you suck. The top players are the ones who decided they could become the top players and worked towards improving, while everybody else is sitting around *****ing about how they'll never become top players.
