You don't suck at the game, you just need practice...like look at Mew2King for example, how many years do you think it took him to develope his skill....a long time....but time doesn't matter, only how you play with the character...like me, when I first played with Pit I sucked with him, now I'm actually good using him, so go out and get some good practice with your main

While I agree it takes time to develop sufficient skill, I must argue that M2K was noted as the best player in the world during a time. People like Gimpyfish/Eggz/Waffles have been playing since melee, have attended tournaments, have sufficient over experience and can adapt to changing tactics from their opponents.

To be fair, someone like M2K is born into this game. The diagnosis of AS ensures that idea a little further as well. So I wouldn't use him as an ideal model (not to say he's bad in character or anything) for when people are losing. Albeit, any professional player will have their "I suck" days. They don't win all the time but they steadily get better when they keep things fresh in their next tournaments or so.

Yo Jason used to suck though and through crazy amounts of effort he became gahlike. If you're going to talk about someone born into smash, look at Mango.

everyone used to suck, hell I continue to suck despite deluding myself that I'm good. So I literally just accept the fact that I will never reach Ally/M2K's level. I suppose on a certain level, it's fine to just admit you suck. Only thing that matters is if you want to improve.

Honestly, comparing yourself to any top-tier competitive player is just gonna bring you down. I've been playing smash since melee: I remember going down the street to my friend's house when I was 8 or 9, after brawl came out but before they had it, to kick some Marth butt as Jigglypuff. But I know I will never be even close to M2K's level. If you have to compare yourself to anybody, do it with your friends. Being with people you can have fun with is what really matters.

but there's no point comparing if you're better than most of your friends. j/s

Touche.

Although I am in a situation where I have that one friend who I just can't beat, and everyone else I play with is a pushover.

My friend is amazing with Sheik. And since I'm still not sure about who I am going to main yet, I don't have any truly standout characters. I'm decent with the Fire Emblem Characters, and pretty good with Captain Falcon, but I just don't know. I've only beat him once, and that was because he accidentally jumped into Ganondorf's flame choke as I was trying to recover.

I have tried Lucario a bit, and I am considering using him. That force palm is amazing, and I am a fan of his fair.

It's actually dumb not to compare yourself to the top players. If you're just content with beating the people at your level, you'll never improve. You have to admit you suck, and then work to rectifying the fact that you suck. The top players are the ones who decided they could become the top players and worked towards improving, while everybody else is sitting around ******** about how they'll never become top players.

I try as much as I can with my Lucina. She still needs alot of time put into her. I guess my ambition to prove that Lucina can be at level or better than Marth (inb4 no shes not). Entered a small wifi tourney today and lost round 2. I saw my mistakes and my match ups. Also learned the delay time online which kinda screwed me hard (counters ). Also this is the first game I've been trying to get into the competitive scene.

Admitting that you suck and see what you suck at is the first step of getting better.
Personally I tend to set "high" goals for myself in games, even though I probably will never come so far.
But that helps me comparing, seeing new strats/tricks I didn't know becore and gives me a clearer goal more or less.

But it's important to not loose heart because of that.
That's the time when sucking actually sucks.
That's at least my take on the matter.

Its strange because when I play with friends and people on the 3DS I do okay even against skilled opponents. Then I go on FG and its like "YOU LOSE HAHAHA LEMME TAUNT YOU" which leads me to thinking I suck.

I only feel this way when I lose to spammers.
I genuinely think that spammers play like a flowcharts that deviates from it self sometimes. Essentially they are predictable but do things no one should do but get away with it because lag and their opponents being smart enough to think that they won't do that.

I know, right? You think that they would try something else after it not working, but they keep doing the same thing over and over again, and you can't seem to figure out when they will do it and when they won't because their spamming the technique is so stupid that it works. It frustates me. A lot at times, especially when I could counter it at first, but then I couldn't. Then, it makes me feel like I suck.

I never thought I'd say it, but I've started enjoying playing a match against a spammer.

Take Charizard for example. Flare blitz, all day. I didn't know what to do at first but as our matches went on, I let him keep doing it over and over until I learned the mechanics of it and how to punish or defend against it. (Other examples: link projectile spam, anyone-with-a-counter spam, etc.)

Don't ditch because it's all they do. Observe, learn, grow as a player. Then, when someone skilled throws the move into their mixup at a tournament, you can be more prepared.

Guys if you lose to spammers, there's only two possible explanations:

1. You're bad

2. The game's design rewards spamming heavily, so the game is bad.

So don't be mad at the spammers, be mad at yourself or at the game. If it's number 1, stop ******** and actually get better. If it's number 2, stop playing the game and play a game whose engine you actually like (like Melee lol).
