I'd say there is all kinds of people playing melee.
I for example just got introduced to melee by a friend in summer 2010, and been in love with it ever since (Brawl? Wat? Go away!)

Same here. Tried to play Brawl exclusively for like 2-3 months, played Melee once in that span and never really wanted to play Brawl again.

I got back into it around almost a year ago and got a friend i used to play with to start again. I also have a new friend of mine who never really played it playing it with me now melee is great and everyone who plays it should tell there friends about it.
