When will people understand that PSO2 being ported to consoles will overall drag down the overall quality of the game? For a variety of reasons.

Consoles are far too restrictive hardware wise. The game will have to be designed to fit consoles, then simply ported to the PC. That or if it's made with PC in mind then ported to consoles, they'll essentially be receiving a dumbed down inferior version. Either way, someone loses.

Secondly. Even if it DOES come to consoles, it's not going to be on the Wii, for 2 main reasons. Online infrastructure and it's being replaced in less than 2 years.

It also will probably not see a 360 port either. Why? Because it costs developers to patch games over XBL. I heard around 35k-41k. I can't confirm these numbers, but I can confirm it costs money. So every time Sega wants to release an update or patch aka events, it'll cost them money. I don't think I've heard about free patches and **** like that on XBL. DLC is also a pain to get to be free on XBL IIRC as well. PS3, i have no clue.

If PSO2 does get a 360, more than likely the 360 users will suffer PSU's fate and simply be behind PC PSO2 in events by a freaking lot and will miss out on extra gameplay and DLC wise.

That leaves the PS3, which is fine and dandy (excluding Sony's recent **** up. LOL.) but the PS3, by far, is the hardest console to develop games for. Period. Especially compared to the PC, which the easiest thing to develop games for out of everything else. So then you have an additional hassle of porting to the PS3 or porting to the PC. Which I'm sure costs extra money, if not, then great.

If you're not convinced, then let's continue.

Dedicated servers. As you know, PSO/PSU got dedicated servers. PSO2 will most likely have dedicated servers. 360 servers were separated from PS2/PC servers of PSU. Unless Sega follows Squarenix's example, the consoles would have separate servers from the PC. Or 360 would be seperate from PS3/PC. While that has it's pros and cons, most people see it as a con. Because servers were separate with PSU, it kinda makes you lean towards the same happening in PSO2.

Piracy. This is somewhat important and only matters based off how Sega goes about distributing the game. Imo, PC distribution would be best through Steam or the way they did PSOBB, and simply offer a downloadable EXE. On 360, it would more than likely be in disc format, meaning the game would steadily be pirated. I would rather avoid that. Period.

With payments, assuming they do P2P and not F2P (which would be terrible for Sega financally, and bad for players, content wise), on the 360, you'd be paying for XBL and then a Hunter's License for PSO2, meaning you're paying twice to play a game online which is just very unappealing to the consumer, at least I think so. PS3/PC wouldnt be a problem however.

I could go on, but these are pretty much the bigger, more important things, from my perspective. Anything more like controller setup aka keyboard vs controller and communication are just nuances with much larger room for subjectivity than what I've discussed.

Not saying that PSO2 on consoles would be all bad. Just more bad than good. Not all of these bads would certainly happen. The less, the better, but some of them are mandatory and will exist if PSO2 comes to console.

And as much as I'd love the game to be available on multiple platforms. I'm not gonna ignore this. I'm gonna hope this game stays PC exclusive for teh sake of the game. People who really want PSO2 will do what they need to be able to play the game, and while obtaining a new computer would be an extreme simply for a game, others like me, will be dropping the couple hundred we'll need to upgrade our PCs to play this game at respectable settings.

That being said. I hope this game is Pay 2 Play, as I'd gladly drop 20$ a month on this game, if it means that I'll get a steady flow of content and DLC and events and all that MMO jazz, because that's what helped make PSO awesome in the first place.

PS:
GHNeko: A lot of what i said isnt set in stone, but you can't ignore the probabilitiy of these things happening.
GHNeko: So it's like, why even bother playing with chances like that.
GHNeko: Cut it out period so you know it doesnt happen.
GHNeko: Skip consoles. Releaes a high quality PC game that everyone will love.
GHNeko: If the next consoles generation is nicer and less restrictive, port it there
GHNeko: Makes sense to me. I want PSO2 to be amazing.
GHNeko: If that means skipping current gen, well, sucks for console gamers without a PC to play on.

GHNeko: if only like 5-9k people play
GHNeko: that's not a lot
GHNeko: you know?
GHNeko: compared to the 20k+ that play on PC in Japan
GHNeko: ****
GHNeko: i actually forgot to add this to my note
GHNeko: 360
GHNeko: sucks in japan
GHNeko: the base of 360 is like 1/20th of Wii/PS3/PC
GHNeko: if PSO2 got a 360 port, it would strictly be mostly because of USA
GHNeko: meaning that a **** ton of people would have to buy it to offset development and porting costs
GHNeko: even less reason why it'd be on 360
GHNeko: because of the japanese userbase which takes priority over USA, unfortunately.

I don't want to sound like a ****** here, but what is PSO2? It must kick some major butt if you're willing to drop $20 a month.

Phantasy Star Online 2.

The game I've been begging SEGA for for ages now. Now, time to read a wall of text.

EDIT: Wall of text read. You have many valid points, and I agree with some of them but you have to remember that PSO started on consoles, hell, the original game was made for the sake of showing off the Dreamcast's online capabilities. I have a feeling that the game will be pretty damn good on consoles, and wouldn't be surprised if SEGA holds off until at least Cafe comes out to launch it.

Plus, most MMORPGs are $10-$15 a month. Why anyone would pay more than that with XBL (hell, why anyone pays for XBL is beyond me) is just dumb.

i was there when PSO first came out. I know it came out on consoles first. That doesnt mean the game would be better of saying on it. I'm not denying the game would be ****. I'm sure it would be a good game on consoles.

It's just more likely to be great on PC.

I also know how much MMOs are worth now a days, but I stand by my statement. I will gladly drop 20$ a month for PSO2.

As for holding out for Cafe, don't hold your breath. PSO2 has been in development along side PSPi:2 for a while, hence why they're starting alpha build testing this month in JP.

I'd also like to add in that Sega said this was an exclusive already. I just hope they stand by their word unlike square
