Patapon 2

Genre: Rhythm, war and real time strategy.
PSP only game

From Wikipedia:

Patapon is a real-time strategy video game that the player controls in a manner similar to rhythm games. The player is put in indirect control of a tribe of Patapon warriors; to command the warriors, the player inputs specific sequences using the face buttons on the PSP, each representing a "talking drum", in time to a drum rhythm. These sequences order the tribe to move forward on the linear battlefield, attack, defend, and other actions. If the player inputs an unknown sequence or enters them off the main rhythm, the tribe will become confused and stop whatever they are doing. However, repeatedly entering a proper sequence in sync with the rhythm will lead the tribe into a "fever" increasing their attack and defensive bonuses. The tribe will stop doing anything after performing the last entered command if the player does not enter any more commands. Some commands are square, square, square, circle (Pata, Pata, Pata, Pon.) and circle, circle, square, circle. (Pon, Pon, Pata, Pon.)

The game is divided into several missions. Prior to each mission, the player can recruit new troops and assemble formations, equip troops with weapons and armor gained from the spoils of war or crafted from certain minigames. The player can return to an earlier mission to acquire additional resources and equipment to build up their troops before a larger battle.

FAQ's

Ask any kind of question and I'll answer it.

How do I unlock each unit?

Yaripon (Spearman Patapon): At the start of the game.
Tatepon (Swordsman Patapon): You need to creat them after geting the Tatepon memory in the second mission.
Yumipon (Archer Patapon): You need to creat them after getting the Yumipon memory in the third (or fourth) mission.
Kibapon (Horse rider Patapon): Evolve a Yaripon to the Pyopyo (Bunny-pon) rarepon.
Toripon (Bird rider Patapon): Evolve a Yaripon to the Sabara class (Angel-pon) rarepon.
Dekapon (Hammer wielder Patapon): Evolve a Tatepon to the Wanda (Dog-pon) rarepon.
Robopon (Giant arms Patapon): Evolve a Tatepon to the Kanokko (Deer-pon) rarepon.
NERFED Megapon (Musician Patapon): Evolve a Yumipon to the Menyokki (Tree-pon) rarepon.
Mahopon (Mage Patapon): Evolve a Yumipon to the Koppen (Penguin-pon) rarepon.

THE UNITS

Yaripon: They have a decent range and is a good unit to have in your army if you want a mid-range unit. The hero mode has good range, but isn't the best damage dealer.

Tatepon: They are fairly good at the start of the game, because they get the highest boost in defense, but after you get the Pon Pata Pon Pata song (dodge song), they lose their best attribute and when you attack, most of them just watch while the first two warriors attack. The hero mode is AWESOME when you are in the start of the game. It makes your whole army invincible, but if a boss use a devour attack (in higher levels, they will use it a lot), your hero is screwed. He just keeps walking forward, making it a easy target for it, and don't forget that if the hero get devoured, he won't revive anymore!

Yumipon: They should never leave your army, unless you have the mahopons (but I like to use both of them in my army). Their greatest attribute is the long range and being able to get many hits, making boss farming and induce status easier. The hero mode is godly, but it is you who decide each class is better for the hero. If you are in hero mode it will shot lots of arrows and you should be using a Barsala (Angel-pon) or a Mogyugyu (Devilpon), not a Chiku (Porcupinepon), because they will hit way harder, even tought that the Chiku will rain arrows on the enemie. I'll talk about farming in its section.

Kibapon: They suck if you aren't in fever, but if you are, they get really strong. Good to have them when going in a fortress mission, because they just rampage everything in their path. Their attack speed don't affect anything only their movement speed affect, so you can put a giant halberd without worrying about only attacking each three turns. The hero mode is like the normal attack, but with higher damage output and he doesn't retreat.

Toripon: A combination of Kibapond and Yaripon. He avoids all ground attacks, because he's flying and throw nine spears as opossed to the six spears throwed by the yaripon. They look like broken, but they get hit by almost all arrows and their spears have way less range than the Yaripon's and to get things worse, if they get hit by one status inducer attack (Karmen archers will shot a lot of these), they will fall from the skies and get owned, because they HP sucks. The hero mode is iddentical to the Yaripon one.

Dekapon: Having the best HP in the game and one of the best attack also, makes it a good tank on the start of the game. You SHOULD NOT use the robopon over them. Why? I'll explain it later. They will help a lot, but later game they shouldn't be used as units, only the hero.It's because your best damage dealer in later game will be the yumipons and mahopons and they are slow, making it hard do dodge moves. The hero mode gives crazy damage and will own EVERY SINGLE BOSS if you have the right equipment and rarepon.

Ropobon: Stonger than the dekapons, yet, more fragile. They are like a glass cannon. It will hit hard, but a single rock can break it. They will die VERY fast in most missions, so you should use the Dekapons if you want big damage. The hero mode is like the Dekapon, but it will hit TWICE AS HARD!!! It shouldn't be a trouble dyeing, since your hero always revive.

NERFEDPON Megapon: Their unit is mediocre at best. Just don't use it. But their hero mode is another story. It's even better than the Robopon hero mode. If you use a LV.10 Babassa+Heaven Horn+Heaven Mantle+Zuddoungyu mask it will do something like 9500 (it's over nine thousand!) for each hit( the max damage per hit is 9999).

Mahopon: May look weak at first, but with the right staffs, it's THE BEST UNIT IN THE GAME!!!. They can heal, cure status effects (great for farming), and spell a barrier. They also do great damage with the Pon Pon Chaka Chaka song (Charge song). The hero mode is a mateor rain, great for hitting multiple enemies and is exactly like the meteor rain that Zuttankarmen has.

RAREPONS

Rarepons are basically, ''ranked'' Patapon units. Unlike your normal white units, they have colors and various status boosts. However, they can't wear caps. You might think that they suck if they can't wear caps, but a high level rarepon is WAY better than a high level normal patapon.

Mogyugyu? Brasala? Mashuriro? WTF?

Each rarepon is an animal, so you can call them for that name instead of these.
Here's the list:

Normal
Bunny -> Pyopyo-> Pyokora-> Pyokoran
Pig -> Buhyokko-> Buhyonku-> Puuhyonko
Frog -> Nyontama-> Gekoroth-> Gekoronpa
Cat -> Fumya-> Fumyaaru-> Funmyaga
Dog -> Wanda-> Wandaba-> Wandabata
Tree-> Menyokki-> Kisuk-> Moriussoo
Porcupine -> Chiku-> Chikkuri-> Chikurinchi
(Red) Fish -> Chigyobi-> Gyopicchi-> Gyogyoppa
Monkey-> Uhoho-> Uuhoho-> Uhokkya
Sheep -> Mofu-> Mofuuru-> Mofurumo
Penguin -> Koppen-> Suppen-> Supengu
Deer -> Kanokko-> Kanokyon-> Kanodia
Mushroom -> Mashu-> Mashuro-> Mashuriro
Angel -> Sabara-> Baasara-> Babassa
Devil -> Mogyu-> Mogyuun-> Mogyugyu
Dragon -> Gyaba-> Gyabaan-> Wagyanba

THE BEST OF THE BEST

I'll list what rarepon is the best on each status below:

Best Patapon ------------------------- Base status boost

Best HP: Tree-pon ------------------------------------- (+500)
Best minimum damage: Dog-pon --------------------- (+100)
Best maximum damage: Devil-pon ------------------- (+400)
Best attack speed: Porcupine-pon ------------------- (- 90%)
Best ignite resist: Dragon-pon, Frog-pon ----------- (Immune)
Best freeze resist: Bunny-pon ------------------------ (Immune)
Best Sleep resist: Mushroom-pon -------------------- (Immune)
Best Crit resist: Deer-pon, Sheep-pon, Fish-pon --- (Immune)
Best KB resist: Deer-pon, Sheep pon, Pig-pon ----- (Immune)
Best Cnc resist: Deer-pon, Sheep-pon -------------- (Immune)
Best Cnc ratio: Tree-pon ------------------------------ (+200 %)
Best Crit ratio: Angel-pon ----------------------------- (+400 %)
Best KB ratio: Mushroom-pon ------------------------- (+300 %)
Best ignite ratio: Dragon-pon ------------------------- (+300 %)
Best freeze ratio: Penguin-pon ----------------------- (+250 %)
Best sleep ratio: Mushroom-pon ---------------------- (+300 %)

Farming

Farming is an easy way to get the items you need to use in the evolution tree. The higher the Cnc chance, the higher the chances that the boss will stager. Each time a boss stagger, he will drop an item, And that's why the Tree-pons are the best. Their Cnc boost in LV.10 is +300 %. If you stagger a boss that's sleeping or frozen (not burning) he will always give an LV3 item at least.

FIRST STEP

You might think it's a noobish thing, but putting your game on easy mode before farming helps because it's easier to stay in the hero mode.

SECOND STEP

Choose the yumipons and kibapons to be your units. Choose the wood bow and halberds, so the boss will live longer, allowing you to get more items. Make the Yumipons Tree-pons (if you don't have them, farm items with the normal until get them) and the Kibapons Mushroom or Penguins, depending to the Boss weakness. The yumipons will shot three arrows each. Making a chance of staggering a boss at least 4500 % (using the wooden bow) each turn! And the Kipabons will collect the items dropped and may froze or make a boss sleep.

THIRD STEP

Now it's the hero turn! Your hero can be a tatepon or a yumipon. The Tatepon hero mode will make your whole army invincible, making it great for farming. The Yumipon hero mode, on other hand, will shoot tons of arrows and will even shoot arrows in between turns, making your chance of staggering a boss even higher. The Tatepon is better when you don't have at least two LV.10 Tree-pons but after it, you should use the Yumipon hero (make him Tree-pon, obviously).

FOURTH STEP

Go farm!
If you already have two LV.10 Tree-pon, you can just spam the attack song, because the boss won't even be able to attack, he will just keep staggering (some moves won't stagger, so you'd better dodging it).

Will update later!

Really there's no need to post not only twice, but three times in a row. If people have something to say about the game they will say it.

I have heard great things about this game though, but it's just not my type.

How much of a change is there in this than in the first game? I love the first game, but I've heard that this one feels like more of an expansion pack than a sequel.

There aren't many differences, but I like this one because the multiplayer. You also have more songs, the evolution tree, new units, the hero, more bosses, longer story, the paraget, you can't lose patapons caps, can select the rarepon, so if you made a pypyo and evolved to a Barsala, you can choose the pyopyo (but who would do that anyway?) and Megapon isn't broken (but the Mahopons are :D). But you should pick the game if you liked the first.
