I want to know how to stop doing panic moves.
Here is an example when I would do it:

Im using metaknight, and im playing a decent marth who has a very good ledge game.
My last 3 attempts to get back on stage were punished, and if I get hit one more time, I lose my stock.
I don't know what to do and quickly become nervous.
I panic and immediately move my control stick up and press the b button (shuttle loop).
The marth punishes me, and I lose my stock.

In the rain.
Calm down and think about what you do before you do it. You're playing MK, you always have at least 1 safe option.

what v115 said, but also read up on different recovery methods, and watch videos of the best metaknight players, and see how they recover against marth players. Practice against CPU`s to practice and get a good feel of the recovery methods.

You need to think logically, watch your invincibility frames while on the ledge and do drop down Uair if they go near it (good players wont since it's a free hit), but what else can you do? If they keep waiting you could stall for a bit (re grabbing the ledge), jumping in and airdodging is never good... tornado onto the stage can work well, but I don't main MK so try it out. Just be analytical, you know that you got punished because you went for a shuttle loop, don't get desperate because if you miss or get shielded you are open. Recovering high can be very useful, they might come from below to attack so either air dodge or another attack is your best option as long as you can predict when they go for you, only go for things if you know they are safe, and learn from your mistakes, don't get flustered and just think what can you do?

Assuming you're playing MK (or applicable to a lot of characters), you could probably leverage getting hit to gaining a better tactical position to land (ie not ending up back on the ledge 3 times in a row) thereby avoiding the situation in the first where you force yourself to make a do or die option.

I really like this idea I never thought about it before.

Thankyou everyone, but I didn't make this thread because I wanted help getting back on stage from the ledge, I wanted to know how to stop my panic move habit, but what Delux said is still very useful to know.

Panic Moves are essentially what occur when your opponent has successfully pressured and outplayed you to the point of you being very nervous and uncomfortable with your current position.. Just try to keep calm, think things through and practice your character to the point of knowing your options inside and out. You can speed up the process by watching other Meta Knights to see what they do, so that way when you are put into that situation again you will have a good idea of what to do and you w ill be calmer and not throw out panic moves.

Yeah most people start to play worse, roll, spotdodge and stuff when they are pressured. You have to literally force yourself into a better mindset, your mindset is one of the most important things and will determine whether you do good or bad, so stay calm and don't get mindgamed, mindgame them lol.
