I wouldn't say I am a pro but I have paintballed alot. I started around 5 years ago. I just have a Spyder Victor 2 but I may go with a Tippman Pro Carbine or 98 Custom done the road.
Anyways, as advice goes. Here's some:
- Don't be afraid of getting shot. It's doesn't hurt as much as you think.
- Don't be afraid to take the initiative and act on your own. If you are seperated by your squad, don't curl in a ball and cry.
- However, listen to your squad leader. Depending on who they are and thier experience, listen to them. A good squad leader has played many games and has good commanding skills.
- Depending on who you are playing with, follow the rules. They are made to keep you safe and having fun.
- If you are at an arena, follow those rules or you will be kicked out.
- Teamwork is ESSENTIAL!
- You are allowed to have fun but safety is of the importance.
- Remain calm during tense situations. If you are under surpresive fire, remain calm and don't act out unrationally.
I have paintballed with the same group for 5 years (about 13 of us) and we like to introduce new players to the world of paintball. Therefore, rules are important to us. So if it seems like my advice is harsh and un-fun, it's because it's what keeps you safe, the players safe, and everyone having fun. If you have a jerk who breaks the rules everytime, it's no longer fun.
I personally have grown to block out the inital pain of the paintball. I am not exaggerating but you can unload a hopper on my back from 10 feet away and I won't feel it. That's why I am only allowed to play with a thin t-shirt and jeans but even then...well....I don't feel it. In fact, to block paintballs, I use my hand as a shield since they hand hits dont count.
I have some good stories. My bestfriends wife and I were on a squad together (we work well together). I am usually the bait so I ran out in the opened and started drawing fire. I caught a couple of paintballs which was pretty cool. Soon enough, some people pooped thier heads up and she got them. She then covered me and I flanked around them, snuk from behind. She then began laying surpressive fire on the other group. Knowing where they are, I got the rest (6 playerd) from behind. This all happened within 5-13 minutes haha.
I was running and I tripped and shot myself in the neck from several inches. It bled and hurt. To get myself pumped, I shoot myself from close range at my foot.
We were playing Triangle of Death. You all load one ball into your gun. On three you must aim and shoot at the person. I was with my best friend and his brother. Him and his brother were gonna shoot me but instead we both shot his brother. My friend shot him in the stomach which caused him to fall to his knees. I then shot him right in the middle of the neck. He has a huge welt for his wedding which was two days later.
Most of my friends are veteran players and have experienced both arena and backyard paintball. However, we prefer woods compared to speedball. I sometimes do squad leader but I mostly do positions like pointman or vice-squad leader.
I love it. I remember paintballing during the winter. Our guns started messing up but it started snowing and then like....heavy snowing. It was like we were in Russia during WWII or like Battle of the Bulge.
