Hey guys, I was just wondering why people never do PK Freeze ever? I watch a lot of videos on youtube about lucas and I have never seen anyone use PK Freeze. Why?

Back when I played Lucas, I abused the hell out of that move and was rarely punished for it. Lucas and Ness's Neutral B moves are so amazing, yet people rarely use them, and I find it a little sad.

As far as PK Freeze goes, it's a great edgeguarding move, but you have to know when to use that or PK Thunder. A lot of players will go below the stage to recover, thus making PK Freeze near useless in that situation. However, it's great to throw out after a Fsmash because the trajectory sets the opponent up to be in range of the move. Yes, it can be airdodged, but on some opponents (Ike, Ganondorf, space animals), you can easily wait and use it when they need to Up B or Side B. If you do land it at any time over the edge, you can use PK Thunder and get them with that when they break out, and thus you're looking at around 30% more damage on the opponent. Higher risk for higher reward, I suppose.

With both boys, it is great to use in place of an aerial after something like up-tilt or a throw. Lucas's is a little more difficult for me to use because it doesn't shoot straight up immediately, but it can be used nonetheless. The opponent will never anticipate this unless they know you well enough, and it is good to use when you don't want to risk being hit by an aerial yourself.

It's also great for pressuring. Most people probably know of the range it can go, but they normally misjudge its speed and how much control Lucas has over it. I'll use this to pressure instead of PK Thunder often times because I can detonate it by me without having to launch myself somewhere, and it doesn't leave me as open as PK Thunder could.

Sure, it's not the best of moves, but too many people won't use it because the first things they think of are "slow" and "easily dodged." The point of the move is to pressure - and to freeze for free damage, of course. The only thing I wish it could do is freeze opponents without sending them up.

I use PK Freeze quite often. But as the post above said, you have to know when to use it. Once you learn the timing and difernt angles you make move it to, its a very good move. Excellent for edge guarding too, and if im not mistaken does 20% damage.

My friend screws me over with PK Freeze when I'm trying to recover at high percents. It's a really good edgeguard against certain characters with slow recoveries that leave them open for attack. Same as above posters, learn when to use PK Freeze and when to PK Thunder. There will be different purposes for each move.

I remember reading somewhere that it's better to not extend PK Freeze to its maximum range since most people will try to rush you as you're controlling it, which lets you nail them as they walk into the blast, and it is apparently harder to reverse its trajectory on the fly to hit someone rushing you than it is to extend it a little bit in the event that the opponent stays put. Thoughts?

That's how I bait with PK Freeze. I throw it out so people go, "OH SNAP, HE'S OPEN" and they dash at me... but then I'll just detonate it a tad bit in front of me to cover myself and the area in front of me, and even if they dodge it, I don't get hit.

lol, I guess watching where the little snowflake is actually going isn't exactly high on the list of things to do while looking to land a solid hit. <_<

^ It's definitely ok as a bait, but only in rare situations: a little more than half the time you're still going to get smacked in the face but if nothing else it's an interesting mindgame that will occasionally yield great results.

The only practical use i can see for it is an edgeguard, because even though it rarely works as it's easily dodged, you can't get punished for it while your opponent is over the edge so you might as well try it haha.

Why not chain another PK Freeze? :D

The most situational yet hilarious thing to do with PK Freeze is wait until you're playing someone who doesn't know how Lucas plays, and have them try to ledge camp. Move to the other side of FD (for example) and PK Freeze so that it explodes still above the stage but close enough to just barely hit them with the horizontal hitbox. End result? Completely unstoppable ledgespike. You just have to rely on your opponent not knowing how big that hitbox really is lol.

But yea other than that it's just good for pestering and hoping for your opponent to slip up. Don't fully extend it. Keep it close in case they rush. There is very little lag after the snowflake explodes so be ready with jabs if they airdodge through it. It's great against Marth when he's recovering from mid level off the stage so that he can't use his Neutral B recovery. Force and airdodge and then go in for a Fair or Bair.

PK Freeze is rawesome. But I try not to use it so much anymore because it gets predictable.

*and because the noise is grating*

PK freeze can be a very annoying move for your opponent...lol
Especially during a free for all.
I mostly use it for edge guarding
and sometimes during a sudden death
its not as good as Ness's PK flash but its easier to control and I believe it has more potential.

I use PK Freeze often when I have a huge lead on my opponent. I hate how it cancels if it touches a platform on the way down.

Down Throw into PKFreeze or Up Smash, then chase with PKT2 is an excellent combo and can catch opponents multiple times (2 - 3), before they really start dodging it. It's only because of it's strict terms of use that make PK Freeze obselete compared to other, faster attacks.
