Ness users are rare. most of his moves have after lag. however in brawl ness is a character to be feared. pkt2 kills at low percents if blasted right next to the enemy. aftershock kills at like 120 percent. to get up the percentage i like to....

short hop sparkles...just go in and out. dont dash sparkles. ive learned most good opponents will block it than either grab you or perform a smash attack.

consecutive pk fire is a good way to build up damage. most people have no clue how to get out. just approach the pillar and when there low enough pk fire once again. if they roll out it will usually hit them as its getting them when there vulnerable. if they jump out of it PK thunder juggle or try to tailwhip them and blast them with a nice pkt2 to the face.

while edgeguarding try to bluff pkt2 and if they get close act like your going to fling it towards you. if there on the ledge long enough you can hit them with pkt2 and grab the ledge.

try to find that spot right when they land all characters have a vulerable point. if they airdodge and your PKT goes through them and if there close enough pkt2 them.

ill try to give more hints im only human but im trying my best to help all these ness mainers. i wana prove people wrong and show the world ness can win major tourneys. im usually available so just pm me or im me at NinersLaw99. peace out evryone

NoNNP

EDIT: I have a recent video in my sig of what i usually do. I'm not going to lie i'm not that great versus Yoshi's because of the Super armor 2nd jump. Even though i lost, pay attention to how i rack up damage. ignore the SD XD. The match was really good. I'll try to post more videos of what i do to rack up damage...

BTW Yoshi is a strong lil dino. Pkt2 to the face kills most people at like 78% where i had him on the 3rd stock. and baseball bat didn't kill him at 110%. XD

I've been playing Ness as my second and I personally feel he is top or at least high tier potential now. Good strategies, although I do like to mix dash attacks in with my short hop f-air occassionally, for some reason most people don't realize it hits 3 times and they only block the first 2 hits of the attack. On stages like Battlefield when you're PKT juggling you can try mixing in a sneaky (although uncharged) PK Flash when your opponent lands on a platform right above you.

i dabble with ness and what i do is mix up approaches with sh fair down air to down tilt dash attack or jus empty hop grabs....the nair to jab combo isnt bad...and my FAVORITE part about ness is...u dont have to land a kill move. once they get to 130 or so...its back throw and its a wrap. that and ofc...hes the flyest character in brawl...dude is always sporting the craziest clothes...like where can i get that mr.saturn shirt from?

I found a good thing to pull out just about with anybody, trip them with a couple of down A kicks, their recovery is still not enought to escape the impending doom of the bat, and it's not hard at all to pull it off, maybe the hardest part would be getting in close to the oponent.

I hate how Ness is so underrated. I also fear the fact that a lot of the Back roomers just have an unnatural hatred for Ness which is why he is so unpopular. I think its just because of character appeal since he isnt such a cool looking character, people refuse to pick him up and try him out to learn new strategies.

But anyways, no more ranting.

I love Ness' edgeguarding game. There are many things you can do to someone who is recovering from a 45 degree angle from the top corner of the blastzone.

My favorite thing to do is jump out, fair the opponent WITHOUT hitting with the last knockback filled sparkle, double jump and spike them. It sounds rediculous in words, but it works.

From the same position, you can jump out to the enemy and uair them. It seems that many peopledont expect this. They usually anticipate and fair or spike and dodge late. Uair usually kills here also at 100 or more.

PKTFE still works in this game and I still use it. People usually avoid sweetspotting the edge if you PKT around there.

Also, I've found a pretty good edgehogging technique utilizing the PKT edgestall. Since rolling off the edge doesnt register you as "on the edge" anymore, edgehogging has become more difficult when trying to avoid those harmful recovery moves. Now, you have to utilize the invincibility granted to you from grabbing the edge, so you cannot hang on the edge anymore and roll off to edgehog someone.

BUT, Ness can hang on the edge and wait to edgehog somone with the PKT ledgestall maneuver. Use the ledgestall that makes the bolt completely unseen to regrab the edge and get invincibility again. Just be sure to use this technique a bit before the opponent usees his recovery move since it takes some time for Ness to grab the edge again.

This is kind of random but I thought I'd mention it. Ness's PKT2 has higher priority when moving at an angle in relation to the enemy's attack. So for example if you PKT2 directly into Samus's fully charged shot at the begining of PKT2, both moves will cancel, but if you go into Samus's fully charged shot at an angle, the charge shot goes through Ness and PKT2 continues. So you might consider using surface to air PKT2 more often than sliding on the ground with it since you can get a pretty shallow angle if you work at it. Just a thought.

Many people tend to forget about uair among Ness's great aerials. It still kills well with the rest of them, and it leads nicely into a tailwhipped PKT2 at the top of the stage.

Since Ness's second jump is so awkward, I like to short hop off the edge underneath my opponent when they're recovering and immediately DJ rising dair. Very cool and satisfying to land. Works especially well against heavy characters or ones with a bad dair. The hitboxes on his spike are deceiving.

I also love bair oos. It has an extra sweetspot near his chest, so you can often catch your opponents no matter which way you're facing. As we all know, fair leads well into tilts, and PKFire to bat is always good. Uthrow to tailwhipped PKTs is difficult to airdodge, and they rack up damage fast. After that it's just a bthrow for the kill.

Though, to me, in order to make Ness an outstanding character one has to first master PKT and have some sick mindgames... just like in Melee. Ness got buffed a bit in Brawl, but he's still not the N64 monster he used to be. G&W, Metaknight, and Marth can give him a good run for his money.

i honestly think people underestimate ness because he wasnt as good as melee. people think the marths snakes can just three stock any ness regarding whos using him. i love that every ness player is different and we cant just spam our moves. its sorta like a strategy fighting game. should we pk thunder them here. wait wait hes trying to recover do i spike him or pk thunder him. should i pkt2 right away or as the match goes on. i love the mindgmes and love to see people pull them off. i have faced some tough ness users and i hve even been tricked. Ness will never get boring for me.

Ness is a mindgame master. One of the best IMO (with Snake).
PKT is Ness' wildcard provinding great mindgames and huge KO potential.

And NONNP, thank goodness you said you dont use the dash attack much. I mean, its a great dash attack, but I just felt like I was... playing wrong from not using it so much. I always thought Ness players were in love with this move.

Oh, and Tyr... where did you get the term "surface to air"?

Liking this thread so far, what I believe we must do is consolidate all the useful post into a single big one on a new thread (once we have a wealth of infor that is) and basically make a guide with advanced techs and whatnot while also addressing specific matchups.

We only have about a month with the game. We gotta give it some more time to figure out what characters Ness is good against and Ness isn't. EB360 is good against Olimar, I'm not as good. I'm ****ty against Yoshi. I kill Ike's and Marths where other might have trouble with it. I'll post my matchup's when we figure out the best way to fight certain characters.
