I was reading the thread on the origin of Bongo Bongo and it got me thinking about other LoZ boss origins. For whatever reason, this guy popped into my head when the thought occurred to me.

As we know, the monster is actually a possessed version of the Goron Patriarch, Darbus. My theory is that the Gorons had a similar problem that the Dwarfs of Moria had in Middle-Earth Lore. For those of you unfamiliar, the Dwarfs began to get too greedy and dug too deep into the earth in search of more and more riches. However, their digging caused them to run into a demon called the Balrog. In this case, the Gorons started to dig too deep with their own mines (don't forget the dungeon Fyrus is in, the Goron Mines) but rather than finding a demon they found a gem that Darbus liked so much that he wanted to wear it as some sort of crown. However, the gem contained a fragment of the fused shadow sealed inside and being used as a headpiece gave it the power it needed to take over Darbus as his host. The Gorons found a way to subdue him and chained him up to try and contain him until they could find a way to get Darbus back to normal.

So that's my theory, nowhere near as interesting as Khold's excellent Bongo Bongo theory, but it's what came to mind when I thought about it.

......wasn't he just possessed by the Fused Shadow? Like every other boss whose power was amplified by it?

No, Darbus simply found the Fused Shadow and that corrupted him, so aside from that small hiccup, your theory is sound and I support it. It's pretty undeniable that Fyrus was influenced by the Balrog, and given the parallelism between the Dwarves, Gorons, Mines of Moria, and Goron Mines... it makes a lot of sense. Good job finalark :)

He does bear a STRIKING resemblance to the Balrog. (Picture for anyone who doesn't know what it looks like) In fact, the entire parallel between the two creatures makes a load of sense. I love the idea of the same greed overtaking the Gorons and causing them to find the thing which corrupted Darbus, it certainly adds an interesting layer to Fyrus.

Now I really want to replay that segment with this thought in mind.

Yes, I did have to post here, and no, my name is not based on his.

Well, that is amazing origins of Twilight Igniter - Fyrus. I am wondering if that is one of the character of a game or in the movie.

I agree with you on Fyrus. I also love the Lord of the Rings comparison. Good thread, Finalark.
