I watched abate play long ago and noticed (incorrectly) that he goes through the platform before go. For months I thought it was possible but postponed looking into it. Looked into it today and realized he's actually doing it after which is a shame.
Is there actually anything that can be done? Not an exclusive question for luigi or going through the platform

Yes. This video mentions it https://youtu.be/kTNl03-1fOM @1:42 If you’re on Port 3 or 4, you’re able to hold down to go platform, allowing you to start the match with combo advantage if you spawn on top of your opponent.
