Opinions on Characters

Hello! I am knew to the SmashBoards community! And I know I am not the only one pumped for the 3ds release. I just wanted to get everyone opinion on who they think the best character* is. I know its pretty early to talk about this but it is still fun to talk about. To keep this easy to understand I am going to do my best to create a guideline to follow and explain each part of it.

Guidelines:

Character: State the character
Do you own the game: Nice to know weather you are coming from speculation or experience
Why do you think this character is the best: Here is your chance to convince everyone why you think your character is the best. Please be descriptive and put more than Ganondorf has amazing hair!


Please be kind to everyone and remember this is all in the name of fun!

*For lack of better words I am using "best character" Try to think of it as characters who you think look really good. I am not trying to predict the next Meta Knight

I honestly don't think it's even fair to be picking a "best character" at this point, even if I had the Japanese game. I only have the demo but everyone honestly seems really balanced and I love it. I feel like Rosalina will be top tier once people figure her out, though. Shiek looks really good too.

Thanks for the honest reply. I agree that it's unfair to choose a best. So when I get a chance I will change it to something like impressive characters or who they think will be high tier. Does that sound good to you?

I don't feel you really did anything wrong with your post, I was just saying I can't honestly choose a "best" without feeling bad

[Venus of the Desert Bloom]

Having been playing the Japanese release for over a week, I really enjoy the new Zero Suit Samus, Palutena, Bowser Jr., and Lucina. As for the best character, I honestly can't say without being biased. Meta Knight is obviously nerfed.

From what I've seen and heard, Shulk, Bowser, ZSS, and Robin seem to be top to mid tier characters

Only having a demo, I can't give impressions on more than five characters.
However, if I had to rank said characters:

1) Villager
2) Pikachu
3) Mega Man
4) Link
5) Mario

They are all good though. I love using Link, and that bombs don't damage you now if you hit people with them. I also love the Gale Boomerang; it feels great pulling in a distant opponent for a nasty Smash attack.
Villager is broken. You can Pocket everything. Is so much fun. I love the pink alt.
Mega Man is also really fun, but I can't play him for the life of me.
Pikachu and Mario feel mostly the same, though Mario packs a bigger punch.

As for other characters, from what I've seen, all my previous mains, Marth (and Lucina) and Lucario look good. Lucario is faster and the stock/aura part of his mechanic is removed, which is a plus. Lucina looks to be the definitive Marth for me, the Roy that should have been.

edit: Also, I cannot wait to try Robin and ZSS.

Most characters seem to sit in a high position, honestly.

I'm surprised nobody has really mentioned Sonic. Cobanermani456 managed to beat Mew2King's Duck Hunt as Sonic, and apparently this made M2K want to try out Sonic more. So I feel like he's gonna be a high performing character before long.

Rosalina & Luma also will be high tier, but that goes without saying. Having the ability to essentially perform single-player wombo combos as well as all of the other perks they have, is just a lot of power to have. Their potential is literally unlimited, people just need to get past the tough barrier of entry.
