This is probably FAR too early to be asking questions like this, but have we heard anything about the online capabilities of SSB4?

For instance, will we have a 1v1 mode at long last? Will there be tournaments? Etc.

I'm guessing we've not heard anything yet, but I figured I'd check.

In all honesty, your guess was correct.

There is already (not sure if it's been realeased yet or not, but) a tournament system via Miiverse, for any game, so of course there will be tournaments...just probably not the way you expect it to be.

As for a 1v1 mode, and especially a "ranked" mode, I highly doubt it because Sakurai's like "nu ppls felins guna get hert" >_> Pssh.

Nintendo isnt really one for online competition besides high scores and such. Based on previous actions we will probably get a much more stable online with more cutomizable options with no rankings.

But who cares about rankings when online is playable.

But some people would say the opposite...what the worth if nothing is tracked.....

I wish he go into detail about how online is gonna be done. I'm guess there won't be any ranking due to people will try to cheat or cry about it.

Yh there really needs to be some news...and we need some more gameplay...in general....

I would love to see Link vs Samus.

They could always have ranked online matches and non-ranked. All I truly want is the ability to jump quickly into 1v1s without having to go hunting though external sources to do so.

We know that the fate of the game hinges on it.
It's amazing how online play can extend the life of a game for me. Those hundreds of hours in Tekken just flew by, I wonder how much of it was spent waiting in a lobby, but hey, so long as the lobby's got a practice dummy to spar with it's not a waste.

Pretty sure online will be present in Smash 4. It HAS to be better than Brawl's though...by a lot.

Why do you need to boost your self worth in online play? Just throw in a stable online and allow for settings/lobbies to be made. Bam, solves every issue.
Rankings in games never mean much and I have never seen a game die because it had a great online multiplayer but no ranks.

Just went back and tried some of Brawl's online randoms and I find myself immediately hoping it'll be worlds better than this, heh...

Probably better than Brawl at the least. Nintendo already said they're fixing Streetpass for other countries due to the fact that it's so rare to run into a 3DS with streetpass compared to the likes of Japan. No reason everyone outside of Japan should get punished like we did for Streetpass.

You can give me the most basic and dull online there is and I wouldn't mind, so long as it's actually playable.

Isn't it like a 10 frame delay at the very minimum, and that's playing with your next door neighbor in brawl? Disgusting. Luckily as a WiiU owner, Ive seen it's online capabilities and all games so far have been smooth. But because brawl's online was so laughably bad, I'm going to keep my judgement that the online will be mediocre. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong once I get my hand on the game however.

Nintendo did state that their previous online stability was horrible, and bought a ton of servers to be used in the future.

It kinda is because generally the input delay in online Smash is 1-2 seconds. Meaning that you would have to be quite slow not to notice a large change.
Actually, it's less than one second and makes a HUGE difference. In really, really bad connections it's probably near a second, though. Well, I haven't really calculated how long the delay is, but I am sure it's less than one second. (If it were two seconds...oh my lord that would be a nightmare. ;_; )

"Meaning that you would have to be quite slow not to notice a large change."

Could you maybe rephrase this? I'm not sure I understand it correctly. ._. I do notice a large change in online to offline.

I basically meant that you were either stating the obvious or didnt realize how bad Brawl online is.

Its a good second or so for me btw.

I don't remember exactly what was said but I do recall something indicating that Sakurai was not satified with the online functionality of Brawl so I assume their would be some improvement one way or another. Though in general I've noticed my Wii U has a extremely low download rate, so unless that's heavily improved on I don't really know what to expect.
