I just dont understand it. Ive been playing video games online forever now, and I do understand there are good people online that are going to beat you... but I've never encountered anything like this. I'm 2-63 in 1v1 For Glory. Again, I get that there are good people online, but literally every. single. person. I've played is 25x better than I am. I just don't understand how it's possible to lose 60+ games in a row. There can't be 1,000,000 amazing people at this game without running into someone that's not as good as I am.

What do you guys think? How can I improve? This is getting ridiculous.

Find a character that is strong, and that you enjoy using, and practice offline learning that character until you can beat level 9's at ease. Then you should have a chance online.

Odds are people playing in For Glory have been playing smash for literally over a decade now, don't fret.

I'd recommend playing "For fun" until you're sure you have a good grip on your main character, it's always possible to figure out your own mistakes even from matches that aren't super serious.

For example, I have a bad habit of spamming the AAA combos without checking if the first one actually hit, which gets me in trouble a lot in For Glory, but I noticed it too in non serious games.

Do you have an established main? If you don't, you could play against CPU player(s) and set your character to random to go through the list and find one you "click" with. Or you could even find a character from a series you like and main them. Once you've settled on someone you should practice with them many times, doing things like Classic or playing For Fun.

Perhaps your strategy needs tweaking? I wouldn't recommend going with a strategy that is expected for the character you choose, like Samus constantly using Charge Beam. Mix it up a little by doing things like dodging backwards and running up to grab the enemy, in which they probably won't expect it or react in time. Grabs are a nice way to stop your opponent for a few moments and can lead into some nice combos. You should always play fast and play hard, even if the opponent has a large lead. I've managed to win a couple battles where my opponent had a full life ahead of me (and was at lower damage) and I snagged the win from behind. Maybe you could even watch others' strategies or ask for training on SmashBoards. The community is a nice place to find helpful people and they're really nice.

When you fight a new opponent, don't worry if you lose the match. Try to identify his or her habits (dash attacks often, always uses down smash after shielding etc) and try to counter them the next match.
If it doesn't work, just try again and never give up. Most players seem to be overly frustrated after losing two or more matches in a row. It's all about patience, brainstorming and even more patience.

This often happens to me. There are times when I lose to the same opponent four or five times in a row and then beat the living sh*t out of them in the following matches. Eventually, my opponent starts to kick my butt again and then it's kinda balanced until someone leaves. I love it.

Smash is a very unique game series, and most online For Glory players at least on Wii U have clearly been playing since earlier iterations. (Note: The first SSB game was released over 15 years ago, with the most popular SSB game (that most players have played) being released 13 years ago).) Imagine being a newbie to FPS games and then playing a new FPS against someone who's been playing FPS games since the original Quake. Of course you'd get your ass kicked.

The only solution is to practice and play casually. Don't let the word 'casual' fool you, you learn a LOT from casual games of SSB when you're new. You'll eventually get better and become able to 1v1 against experienced players.

Follow the advice above this post because it's really good stuff for a new player to do, and keep playing. Just practice as much as possible. Try every character in classic mode on easy or medium difficulty, and pick the one that feels like it gives you the most freedom/ power. Everybody thinks in different ways, and smash is all about thinking about fighting. Certain characters fit with certain people's minds easier than another character might, so once you've tried them all, pick the one that you feel gives you the most freedom (because a lot of people who first start playing the game will feel like they're trapped and like they're getting beaten up, like they can't move or avoid any attack). The most important thing anyone could ever tell you in this thread is to NEVER GIVE UP.

IMO playing classic mode and fighting CPU will do you know favors in the long run. Your better off just going to training mode learning some of your characters properties how your opponent moves when struck by said attacks so you can follow up and then taking that online and practicing.

You probably wont win right away but smash isn't like other fighters where you can learn a good combo and dominant you really need to understand how your char plays and how most people will react to your attacks so you can get some good reads. Playing CPU is fine but it won't improve your game at all.

Everyone has to start somewhere. Is Smash 4 your first experience with Smash? Many players already have a basic fundamental understanding of the game through previous experience with 64/Melee/Brawl/P:M. Do not worry about your W/L, focus more on the reasons why you may be losing your matches. I.E. are you being too predictable? Are you incorrectly spacing moves? Have you found a main which you feel most comfortable playing with?, etc.

Be sure to practice your technique, watch videos of higher skilled players, and importantly do not give up. Have fun with the game and play a character who suits your playstyle the most.

The lag can be so terrible online whenever you're playing "For Fun", as you're always doing 4-player games. As a result, the internet connections between the four players won't always be in-sync with each other.
