Olimar Doubles Discussion

We need doubles disucssion! Go!

Before making this thread I quickly looked through the Olimar boards and searched for 'Oli', 'doubles' and 'partner', but I found nothing. Now I realize that Shrink already made a guide to doubles, but it's okay to have an actual doubles discussion thread outside of the guide, right?

I feel like two olis who played carefully may be a challenging team ( or a ****ing nightmare for the oli players), what with their crazy hitboxes flying all over the place. If anybody has any serious experience with this team, please explain

To be honest, brawl doubles doesn't seem like it adds much more depth. I don't play doubles in tourneys really, just cuz I never put effort in to finding a partner lol, but I usually just go mk in doubles friendlies rofl. I've been pulled back to mk after un-maining him for like 7 months.

He's so fun and good....I just feel dirty playing as him.

Oli is still mah number 1 and all...but still....metaknight!

I haven't been able to do doubles with my Olimar yet (my partner is to scared to try it since he's a D3 and is scared he'll accidentally kill me or all my stray hitboxes will hit him. :[) but I've actually been wanting to try out the ROB + Olimar team (being my main and my secondary. :o ) because where Olimar lacks survivability, ROB excels. The only issue with teaming with a ROB is his lack of offense. I'm not sure how Olimar handles 2v1s but if it's not well and you're facing a competent team, they can just gang up on Oli as ROB's offensive game is meh at best and he really excels at defense.

Sooo, it basically comes down to how well Olimar does in a 2v1 situation. If he does well, team with a more defensive character that also does well in 2v1s, if he doesn't do well in 2v1s, you need someone more mobile and offensive to ensure you don't get trapped in 2v1 situations as much.


I need more Olimar teams practice so I can actually contribute instead of just theory craft. x.x

My doubles partner is an olimar. And I can safely say Fox olimar is a kick arse team. Olimar's grab range and spacing complements fox's upsmash VERY nicely.

In my experience, Oli is fine in teams unless he goes up against any variation of a Snake/MK/Marth team. Their excellent stage control tools just ruin Oli's spacing game. This can be circumvented, but it's a still an issue- like Oli's recovery.

Anyway, I remember doing mk oli team a couple times (me being the oli I mean). It was pretty nasty. Mk is fast enough that he is able to (very very situationally) rescue oli with an uair if he gets gimped. Pretty nifty :D

I'm not a real mod. Just a ROB board mod. Only thing I can do outside of the ROB board is give infractions. After I get a feel for how the Oli boards generally works, I'm gonna talk to JV about making me a mod for the Oli boards as well so I can sticky/unstick, move post around and open/close stuff for you guys. : D

Despite being able to give infractions here, it's not actually my job(yet) and I'm not supposed give any unless it's a serious offense. Oh, and so long as you're on topic, it's not really spam, even if it's kind of silly. Besides, you guys seem to stay on topic pretty well. :D ; ) ; )

Oh, and MK is a good team mate no matter who you play as, even if you play as MK.

I laughed when llumys and I got ***** by double peach. I think Olimar+Oli/Marth sounds good, but in all honestly it really doesn't matter. You may as well say Olimar+M2k.

I think Olimar is functional on teams, just have to have a teammate who's ready to save you from an edgeguard and space well.

Actually, Olipuff sounds like a very interesting team. It's a shame I don't know any good Jigglypuffs. Olimarman and I did well in doubles, but once we hit a double Peach we got *****. It was a shame, really. Honestly, double Olimar is great. There's quite a few team tether tricks, like an alternating quick hog. Also, if your teammate is doing a grab combo, you can always help out with a toss or just continue the combo. Double Olimar is just too sexy. I like teaming with Marth and Meta Knight, though. I've also partnered with a Dedede and it didn't go to well. When I play doubles, I tend to go Fox, though. I'm not sure why, but I can't handle Olimar in doubles if my partner is a certain character, like Pikachu or Lucario. Anyway, I apologize for the ******* mistake in the title.

In all reality, the only team that can effectively beat double olimar is double peach. Atleast I personally feel that no character even comes close to the difficulty Olimar has vs peach. But yeah, llumys and I were doing great until we had to play a double peach. Then the nublet had to go so we couldn't finish the tourney...

Peach isn't so bad. I dislike the marth matchup more.

I don't have many matchup problems, but Peach and Marth are tied at worse, so I'm not going to discuss who's more annoying for Olimar.
