Ok, without further delay, here it is: the Oklahoma Power Ranking thread!

Now, I'm feeling really lethargic right now, so I'm just going to start this thread off with the bare bones so you all will at least have somewhere to talk about it. I'll update it in a more grandiose fashion at a later date.

The current list:

Now, this list was made many moons ago, and not only does it have inconsistencies in player activity and location, but it was also rather controversial, so to speak, at its release (but then again, what power rankings aren't?). Either way, the list really needs to be updated.

The panelists will undergo a change from their previousness as well. Currently, the only two panelists that I have in mind are:

-Zinth
-KOS-MOS

I will be thinking about who else to make into panelists, but, for the most part, I feel that we are not all well-enough acquainted with the talents of each other to be able to make an accurate list.

First off, Coty and Alex need to be taken off, seeing as they don't reside in OK anymore...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again until someone makes it happen: POWER RANKING TOURNAMENT!!

That is the ONLY way we're going to have an accurate determination of who should be placed where. Aside from Chris, who is OK's undisputed #1, the rest of that list is grossly outdated and inaccurate(as stated by the thread creator)

It should be a round-robin style, 20-32 man(depending on who we get to show up) bracket. There should as be some kind of ranking system as to keep this thing in line. If we're gonna do this, we should make sure its done properly and will last a while.

Failing that, I suggest that we take recent and upcoming tourney placings into account. OHSNAP3 should be the obvious starting point for this, and I suggest that we all try to be at the upcoming Midwest City event this Saturday, to see where we all stand. Of course, I more than likely will not be participating in said tourney, but I'll at least try to show up and cheer you guys on, maybe play a few friendlies before work...

Also, just to get a general idea of things, I would also take votes from our current active smashers in some kind of non-binding poll to see where most of OK's Smashers think everyone ranks. I'll get the ball rolling and post my list sometime tomorrow, if no one beats me to it beforehand.

As far as panelists, I would suggest Andy and Pablo(if you can get him to do it-- that lazy Mexican...)
Anyone else, I don't know how impartial or how good a view they would have on everyone's skill seeing as we don't see them very often...

Our players are too spread out, and we don't really have events regularly, so getting a truly accurate Power Ranking is going to be quite the task... That is why I suggest the voting just to see where most of the top dogs fit in everyone's minds...

Oh, one last thing, go ahead and restore yours truly to active Smash status... I never really went away, seeing as how I've been at quite a few major Smash events and don't plan on going anywhere once Brawl hits...

Wow, nice list Souf Paw. Last time I played kuni, I beat him. As for Andy, well nobody told me how gay samus could be on corneria (it was a MM too), in my opinion we are even (Jiggs or Ganon, my ganon ownz). Scud, nothing against him, but paemon told me he beat him, I think he said 2 stock, at ohsnap3. Probably was a friendly, but right now we have to take those into account since people like to put up johns.

One way to solve this? PR TOURNY. As soon as I can come up with like $65, Ill try and set something up over at OU since that place is really cheap and effective. In all honesty, 7th isnt bad, brandon should be above me since he beat me last time we played (we will see this thursday), andy should be above scud, and kuni should take brandon's spot.

I would say you definitely will wind up on the official one from what the others have said of your skill, mangz. I REALLY hope that this Power Ranking Tournament gets underway, so that all of these johns and speculations can be settled at least until Brawl comes out.

Even then, I don't think Brawl is going to shake things up TOO much, Chris will still probably the best, I will still whine about not being able to play because of work, and Paemon will still be a jerk. All in all, the more things change, the more they stay the same...

Where is the rest of OK? You guys need to put in your two cents! I'll be posting my "list" later tonight. Prepare yourselves... (Even though it will most likely look like a fusion of Coty's and Babac's lists...)

Nice, PR's finally up ^_^ IMO, the power rankings encourages competition. If you don't like the end result, then start showing up to events and show Captain Falcon your moves!

Since everyone's doing it:
For this time, I'll mostly judge by wins that I can recall, not really by performance, effort, luck, character match-ups, etc., so this is just a really raw list. Along with number rankings, I'll also include "--" to separate groups of rankings to resemble "tiering", since comparisons in "win success" among smashers in each group is not really significant:

And then there's Heath and Derrick, extremely good, but MIA for almost a forever! Poor, poor Heath and Derrick

Despite them not playing us much, I'd still like to see lists from the newer Oklahomans, even if it's a list amongst their crew.

Oh, and I too vote for a round robin PR tournament.

i think pablo's list should be heeded except of course he always places himself too far down. his peach was pretty much going even with me (in teams, so you can't tell 100%, but still) so wtf?

also, i think i have a good concept of skill but since coty and i aren't in OK we shouldn't be involved in it's affairs. autonomy for OK, please. kthnx.

all i can say is that the panel should be made out of people of different crews, different skill level, and different locations.

zinth, kos-mos, pablo would be an awesome core.

I have made my own PR now. Of course it's not going to be perfect, I don't think any of the PR's we made are. None of us have played each and every person in the state a lot....which makes it hard to be reaally precise. Here is my attempt.

Alright, people! Here is Po's Picks for Power Rankings... If I don't list you or mention you, it's not that you suck(I think everyone in OK is actually pretty good), I just probably forgot or haven't played/seen you play.

That's the way I see it. First is a given-- Chris is too good. I don't know what to do... Bryan has improved a LOT. Pablo, you SHOULD be second, maybe even first Start getting serious again! Brett's too good.

I'll stop ragging on him just this once and say that Paemon is really good and seriously underrated... I've seen this guy take out so many different players of varying skills, from n00bs to seasoned OOS players. He's probably won more money matches than anyone else in Oklahoma. However, you're STILL an *******

Andy, you have the most annoying Samus ever. 'OOPS' indeed. Kuni, I hated to have to rank you so low, but you're absence has allowed everyone to either catch up to or surpass you. I still see great potential in you, though. I hope you get your competitive edge back and start showing all these upstarts how to own again.

Babac, I know you think me and Marc are better than you, but going off of total win/loss ratios(not just vs each other), you have the edge on both of us. Marc is WAY better than I ranked him, but he hasn't played well in his last couple of tourneys and hasn't yet lived up to his potential. I still believe he's definite Top Five material, however.

Bringing up the rear is yours truly. I know some of you will question my desicion to place myself at Number Ten, and I personally feel I'm better than that, but I just don't have the wins to prove it. I could sit here and make johns about bad brackets *Bryan--GRR , Getting Marc 1st Round at MGC *, but the truth is I just plain sucked. Don't worry, I promise you I'll do everything in my power to whoop as much *** as possible in the coming weeks and prove that I am 'The Pimpest Player in OK'

Honorable mentions go to: Shanx, Chubbs, Jeff, Crackboom, Sars Pirate, and Auddy-- All very good players. Auddy especially is one to watch out for, he's gotten tremedously better and I hope he makes it to more events to prove me right. Also, BlueJay, Ken, King GT, and everyone else: You all kick ***! I agree with Babac, OK smash is dying... Alex, the main host is gone. I personally consider myself the one that gets people off their *ss to go somewhere AND i try to organize events, have also left. Babac, the king of smash.... fests.... is out, and pablo, the n00b ambassador, is out... wtf mate?

I predict Oklahoma WILL die soon UNLESS:

People get vehicles that work and start travelling (at LEAST to other peoples houses)
Somebody figures out how to host more tourneys and TD type events
LOTS of smashfests get going and big (on the scale that babac's place was)
People STOP being lazy and start doing things
People get better

If Chris has no competition, people will lose hope... people in phoenix would always lose hope because Taj dominated... until sean started coming up every other weekend or so... people will think it's not possible if they don't see it.

People have to really want it, and I see VERY little of that in Oklahoma. I've seen SO little of it in my time there, i was a bit... well, a LOT more than a bit... disgusted by it.

Brandon... he TRIES... he would always go to EVERY event that his work would allow, and even though he's been playing longer than any of us (maybe save pablo) he's not the best, but he STILL puts in the effort

Pablo, I KNOW he has a LOT of **** that he doesn't tell people about, personal and otherwise... but either way, he would always show up when he could and make sure people had a good time, or at least a good laugh... back when i could always pick him up because we both had time, those were THE most fun times i had in oklahoma smash, he's just too fun to be around... along with many others... but these two came to mind very strongly, so i picked them (<3 pablo and brandon, lol)

People making silly excuses like i dont feel like it now or stupid sh*t like that... guess where that gets you and everybody else? nowhere... you dont feel like it? I would willingly bet ANY newcomer to the OK smash scene 100$ that they could 'not feel like it' then walk into babac's house when me, chris, pablo, babac, andy, and bryan, or anybody else was there (<3 jeff and billy) and INSTANTLY be in the mood to play and have a good time... its not possible to not have fun.

For the record, if anybody on this thread doesn't know me or what i've done in OK for the community, ask any of the players that have been around, you wont find many people that don't know me.

I'm sure a lot of you have parent trouble. But I'll say this... if you REALLY give a **** about this game or community (the community in my opinion is far more important anyways) then im sure you could convince just about any parent (unless you're kuni) that it's a good thing... yeah, you might have to have the others meet your parents first, which happens... just invite them over some day... NOT THAT HARD!! Yeah, you might have to clean or something, as Babac did COUNTLESS times so I could come over... but so what... if you care, you'll go that extra mile... No Johns

If you're in high school... ummm.... ASK if you can use the gym on some saturday or maybe after school some time... you'd be surprised how many people would be okay with the idea of you playing a nintendo game at school... Babac's mom's logic isn't as rare as we think (being... if you're playing smash, you're probably not on the street doing drugs)

If you go to church, and maybe they have a gym or something (even if they dont) ask if you could use the building on saturdays or something... it DOES NOT have to be huge or complicated... smashers want to play, they dont give a sh*t where (0C3 was held in a paper factory...come on people!)... FIND SOMEWHERE


My advice: SOMEBODY with a decent basement (or like chubs, who has a great place for smash) or some kind of room available start hosting fests... no, they dont have to be huge, just getting people together is a GREAT start. Next, somebody needs to host a tournament, preferably, starting WEEKLIES and newer or more well-traveled people bring their frinds... after a couple of these, maybe have a TD type event, just a big get together and have fun and learn, no pressure (but free food... who can say no to 40 tacos?). People need to get reliable transportation so they can have a ride (and maybe give one).

Also... try to help people realize that you CAN....NOT...get better by playing your small group of friends... the best way to get better... play someone high on the PR, get owned, ask how to improve, and work on it... I have yet to meet a smasher who was not willing to help out another, hence the beauty of this community

Dont get me wrong... there's still hope... in fact for the past few months I've really been watching Bryan and Babac get better (except that babac does stupid shiz too much, but anyways) and i've watched the community grow, like the injun crew and all the people at ohsnap3 from OK that id NEVER heard of... it's possible... And really... I think Bryan and Chris are going to be the ones in the best position to make improvements (im sure chris can start something at college) and will be the best to set an example for the rest of OK.

P.S. Bryan, I really didn't like you when you were emo about smash, lol... at the Injun tourney where you lost to me in winners AND losers... and you didn't seem bothered by it, i decided that i would try to help you more =P... sorry if i wasn't any help before then.

I think everybody should read South Paw's beacuse of how many times he says my name. All joking aside, it really was a good post and should be read multiple times.

I was going to quit pretty soon, I mean it was a lot ealier than I would have liked, but it was going to happen. Smash was too fun with you guys, it really does sadden me to leave, but I have to, I dont see any other choice in the matter.

My parents were actually pretty cool about you guys coming over playing smash because it kept me out of trouble, but unfortunately I had other friends that would get mad at me because I would play smash with you guys and I would never hang out with them. Especially since a good number of those friends were girls.

For the future of OK smash, it really is up to Chris and Bryan...AND BRETT. Yes I say brett too, if those 3 actively do something, then smash will go to a new level in OK since those are pretty much best 3 in the state now. Chris, if you are reading this, stop being emo, you arent omar ok? You need to start setting things up, get with bryan and brett and start planning things so you guys can get new people and if they start playing you they will get good in no time at all.

I gotta back up coty with the parent thing. My parents werent going to let Paemon go to NM because I wasnt going, I stayed up pretty much till 4 am trying to convince them that he would be safe. Parents can be persuaded in to a lot of things if you have good representation. I guess its hard for them to see a lot of people playing a game for the fun of it, but if you can get chris, bryan, or brett to meet your parents, tell them what its all about, trust me, they will be ok with it.

Black Asian Brown American Canadian, it doesnt matter, show your parents that BABAC is a part of smash and will never leave. Give your parents a lasting impression of how good BABAC really is, trust me, once they get BABAC in their head, they have a hard time getting BABAC out.

also, im flatter that the first page was me being fourth a bunch...but im not fourth. i may have used to be good enough, but this last month or so ive been playing so bad.

i know i can do better, but apparently i cant, so, heres a list of people i think are better than me, atleast they have been for the last month or so which is when i think i started sucking.
babac, paemon, bryan, chris, brett, marc, brandon...you get the idea, pretty much the whole top 10, if anything, i should be ninth or tenth. maybe im beating myself up over a bad day(or 30), but this is how i see it.

also, i decided i cant just "quit smash", and im with bacabc and coty, if you can get something going and organized, count me in. but would it kill you to play for fun for realz occasionally? i mean, whos going to frown on us if we play a match with pokeballs on very high on flatzone? i know id have more fun than i have been.

but, brawl is coming, and that will mark my exit from the ok smash scene, since im not getting a wii. i may still play brawl at peoples houses, but i dont want to play with items and stages banned, they look too fun.

also, peamon, i see what you mean. its just hard not to get discouraged when i try to play smash and dont have fun...

It's just that after that first tournament Pablo and I hosted, I realized just how much work and effort needs to be put in to make a decent event, and I just am not able to do that knowing I have to work the next day. You guys should see the look on my boss's face whenever I tell him I need a day off to go play Smash...

Furthermore, Coty's right. The rest of you, if you want this community to grow and thrive, have to take some initiative. Start asking around at places and see if anyone's willing to allow use of their facilities. Sure, it won't be easy, and you'll probably get a lot of strange looks, but dammit, if Smash is going to continue in this state, we need new venues and organizers. That's why I tried so hard to get everyone to go to that tournament Saturday, sure it was small, but at least it was something.

Another thing that gets to me is this: You guys have so much free time on your hands... Sure you've all got your shoolwork and other such activities, but ****, after that, what? I work at least 40 hours every week, usually more, and I still manage to find time for this game. Why? Because I WANT to play Smash that badly. I love this game, whether its 4-stock 8-minute tourney matches on Battlefield, or a 4-player FFA with items on high on Hyrule Temple, it doesn't matter to me, because either way, this game is too much fun for me to quit playing.

My point is that sometimes, we take it too seriously. It is just a game, after all. Have some fun with it! You don't have to play watered down tourney-style all the time. It's okay to play with items on, or just pokeballs, or whatever. That's why they allow you to customize the game rules in the options. Take the stick out of your ***** that there's only one way to play, because there isn't.

To finish this lengthy post, I'm going to say this: ALL of you guys are too cool to just give up on Smash entirely. Maybe you all just need to step back a little and remember why it is fun for you. Don't get frustrated because Chris 4-stocked you, laugh it off, and figure out HOW he 4-stocked you, learn some new stuff, and come back and just get 1or 2- stocked like I do now ^_^

I'm going to try and find us a new venue that isn't OU or Babac's House, and I guess TRY to host something myself. It's going to be a hassle for me, but don't you guys worry about that. You just get your controllers and be ready to play some silly-*** matches w/items/hippos/your momma/whatever.

I might attend smash events, but like I said, its not going to be a priority anymore. So Im going to have school, night school, and a job pretty soon, while it might not be 40 hours a week, I still dont see where I smash will take priority in any of those.

lets see here...as far as yours goes brett, zinth MAY be above you based on me fighting you alst night, but i never saw you two fight, so feel free to disagree.

i feel kuni and yawara are better than me. atleast for now. i tihnk paemon shold be above babac. although, paemon/marc/brandon/me/possibly yawara all feels like a big tie...

also im going to say i tihnk yawara=kuni, but then again i didnt see them fight each other.

if someone can compile that into a list that would be nifty.
