Alright, ever since Sakurai has announced Snake in the game, everyone, including me, was fine with it. I mean, Metal Gear Solid IS a good game, and it won't hurt to put just one third party character in it, right? Wrong.

October 10, 2007. Sakurai announces Sonic. SONIC. That went too far. Did he add Sonic because of the hype, did he want a rival for Mario? I don't know. But nevertheless, I can predict that there is a 75% chance of another third party character being in Brawl. 75%. That is overwhelming, considering that this is supposed to be a NINTENDO ALL-STAR ACTION GAME. Think back to the bow cover of Super Smash Brothers 64. Clearly it says "Duke it out as your favorite Nintendo characters." Let me emphasize those last two words. NINTENDO CHARACTERS. Nothing else.

So what is Brawl going to be if they add another third party character? Not Super Smash Bros., for all I know. Here we are toying with third party characters that mean nothing to many, whether it's Brawl enthusiasts, your casual player, or a 7 year old actually having fun with the game. So what I'm trying to point out is, third party support may spoil Brawl a little, and it may feel a little unfamiliar to me.

If you agree or disagree, please discuss it here, and keep the flames to a minimum.

Also, some people like to think that if they have been on a Nintendo system, that they are a Nintendo character. Now I know they aren't truly a Nintendo character, but that's the way people's minds work.

Well Snake brought joy to my heart...whereas Sonic crushed it...
However, I do hope Megaman does make it into Brawl.
Megaman... good times...

Well, Megaman and that's it for me. I forgot about him.

I fail to see how 3rd party additions would turn brawl into a generic fighting game?...
Isn't it kinda the eh, formula and gameplay and such that makes it differ?
If you don't like 3rd party characters don't play as them, it really is that simple...
The majority will always be nintendo characters and a big majority at that.
And additions of this or that character won't change the formula that's behind the SSB gameplay...
Like I said, if ya don't like 'em, don't play as 'em.

OOOOOH I'LL POINT EM OUT!

So your assuming that two or three third party characters when compared to the already 20 confirmed nintendo characters(and we know theres gonna be even more) are going to ruin the game and make it like any other fighting game?Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. The only way this game could be like other fighters is if they removed every one of smashes most basic gameplay elements, the king of the hill style game play, the platforms, the double jumps, the damage meter and replaced it with a one on one, set health, set time limit, no ringouts, jumping is useless gameplay style. It has nothing to do with the characters. Your an idiot. Become An Hero

You are absolutely right. The gameplay makes the game. But I know that for some reason, I don't play Halo because it is unfamiliar to me, it would feel like I'm in another country. I'm starting to get the feeling that Brawl would seem "UnSmashBrosLike," and that I would feel uncomfortable playing it. But when I do get the game, I'll remember that post in my head.

They are GUEST characters. This is Nintendo All-Stars with GUEST characters.

And you make some assumptions in your post I'm not bothered to point out.
I never looked at it as guest characters. Great point. And I know the assumptions, but I see them as opinions in my view.

Why in the world did I say that it would kill Brawl!? I'm gonna have to edit that post. What I really meant is, well... spoil it a little for me and a few veterans, and I see many not caring about the third party characters when I talk about it to others.

And you had a right to call me that, because I had no idea what I was thinking 10 minutes ago!

It won't ruin it for anyone but purists afraid of change...

Deal with it, it's not like you haven't played these characters on a nintendo system before...

Hell, if you didn't know they were 3rd party you wouldn't even care

It's just an ignorant state of mind

I agree. Before 3rd party characters were in Smash Bros., ice bergs weren't melting, animals weren't endangered, there was peace in the middle east, democrats and republicans walked side by side holding hands, and everyone had their own pet unicorn that could fly and shoot lasers out of its face. Now that 3rd party characters have been included in Brawl, the world as we know it has become the world as we don't know it.

R.M.B. were else?
we'll sakurai's requirements such as "must have been on a nintendo game aty least once" are realy there to eliminate things like this. megaman feels like he would have been a nintendo character to me, and Im ok with him in it. Im ok with sh=nake being in, cause he's cool like that. Im nuetral with sonic so thats ok with me. as long as they dont add people like master cheif Im fine.

Whenever you play a new game you're supposed to feel like you're on new territory. If you don't play games for the simple reason that you "feel like you're in another country" then you wouldn't play any new games. Games are supposed to have new features, characters, levels, etc. It's what makes people buy the game. If you were just playing Melee with better graphics, then it wouldn't be worth the forty bucks. The gameplay hasn't changed all that much, we knew they'd add new characters, and I don't see how it is at all possible that Super Smash Bros. can ever seem "unsmashbroslike."

Ok... so I heard there was this thread that some guy started because he was over opinionated.

May I remind you that for about 5 years when home gaming was coming into poplarity the two most popular characters were Mario and Sonic. Sonic is Mario's long-time business rival, and one of the most important characters in gaming, and that's all there is to it.

If you attempt to deny this fact simply because you don't like Sonic, you have no business here at all.

If you can provide a valid argument as to why Snake should be in it and not Sonic, then... well, never mind, you won't do that, anyway.

Don't get so upset about this. I think the more third party the better. Look at Soul Caliber 2 that had guest characters on each different consol. Did they appear in the 3rd one? No they did not. Probably be the same with SSB 4. I enjoyed having link in soul caliber. I also enjoy having Sonic and Snake in Brawl. Nintendo can have as many as they want. Things change. Accept change. Nintendo cares about $ and not worrying about going against the tradradition. If putting sonic in would get another 500k copys sold. Then they will do it. Even if it is a Nintendo Allstar game, they will still do it. Look at all the other 3rd party games. Mario and Sonic Olympics, Mario Kart GP with Pac Man Characters. All characters will soon unite. Its change.

I agree, most characters would kill the game: I'm looking at you Pacman!

But to me, it depends on the characters. Some have great nintendo history and would be fine additions to brawl:
Geno Megaman and Bomberman

That's the pick where I raised an eyebrow. First of all, I thought that Nintendo was on bad terms with Sega AND Sonic doesn't have that broad of a moveset whereas many other third party reps do.
