Lucien requested to be taken off starting next period(Due to retiring right at the end of this period(Axis)), and since he did so well this period his #2 is well earned.

Because you know... people are starting to try to get biweeklies together and stuff.

More local tournies = more consistency = more accurate PR

Though at one point we may have to do a PR like EC fashion: One huge PR to cover all of Norcal, and a separate one for different parts of NorCal (Bay, Fresno, Sac/Modesto, etc)

Yea. that sounds great, if we have enough participation and tournaments to be able to do it.

I expect about 1/2 the PR to be replaced with new people by the time the next update hits.

Can we have the reason why each panelist was chosen specifically? a few seem kinda random.

It doesn't seem quite right to me that 3 of the panelists are in the top five. I mean, everyone knows that Meep, Sean, and Nanerz deserve to be in the power rankings, but when it starts coming down to who outranks who within the rankings, the set-up could lead to some bias, or even anti-bias... if thats even a word. Not to mention some very annoying complaints when the competition starts getting alot closer together. Maybe the panelists should be the people that run the most prominent tournaments of the ranking period? I dunno, just putting in my opinion.

I'm not saying that the lists aren't accurate, I'm not even saying that there was any bias in the lists, I am just saying that when the people voting have a personal stake in the outcome of the vote, there is an unquestionable chance for bias. I just think that there could be a better way, such as my suggestion to put the tournament hosters on the panel. I mean, if you are investing time and money into a tournament, or even a long running series of tournaments like TAG, I would think that you are just as qualified to vote on the power rankings as any of the current panelists. I'm not saying that every tom, ****, and harry that runs a tournament should be involved, but definitly the people who run tournaments that are considered to be a serious contribution to the Norcal smash community, not to mention that these tournament outcomes are being used to determine these players' rankings.

fresno can be considered norcal. i talked to lit (dizzy's brother) and he said something like "it sucks because for norcal tournaments we have to travel 3 hours, and for socal we have to travel 4 hours. might as well go to the closer ones" and it's true, fresno generally does travel to norcal almost exclusively.

lol or fresno could be like san diego and make their own rankings

which would look like

fresno melee+brawl rankings

1. mexi/lit/dizy
2. spaztik in brawl, d4dy in melee
3. everyone else

@ The __Cheese: We cannot give you 8th and 9th place, but we could give you the combination of the two for 17th :)

@ Miztik/PK/Naota: As I semi-explained in the first post, this period was huge! So we had to take in consideration everything from the beginning to just 2 weeks ago. Since we have limited the period to 8 weeks now, changes are definitely more probable for the list.

@ Ender: As far as my knowledge of who was picked for panelist was the people who travel to the most tournaments. All 5 of the Panelists travel to almost all the brawl tournaments and although there is a majority of bay panelists, they regularly travel and play in other region tournaments(Sac/Stockton/Modesto). We are considering adding a new panelist from the north but due to lack of travel and logical thinking it is becoming extremely difficult to choose one.

@ The Foot: There will always be bias in any human decision list. But we limit this bias by not doing votes and by instead looking at results(Who beat who, who lost to who, how recent, etc) and then collaborating with each other till a final ground can be reached. For this list we were all able to agree 100% on each position after each of us brought up some valid points. Sean even agreed that because of Nanners recent wins over himself and Meep that he deserved the higher spot.

And tourney hosts may not always make the best panelist simply because anyone can run and host a tourney and still not understand or pay attention to the scene. Tourney hosts may often not travel or keep up with outer region results. Where as players who travel and compete in multiple regions are able to keep up with more results.

@ Miztik: Being ranked has nothing to do with being able to decide who is the better player. You have to be logical and not put emphasis on how players play against yourself but the community in general. And yes Fresno is Norcal.

@ The Foot: The only voting is when there are two extremely close players in rank and their results are very similar. It is then up to each individual who after reviewing the results gages based on their opinion the severity of certain losses and wins. Now just because there is voting does not mean that there is automatic bias, as even Sean voted against himself vs Nanners in this list.

@ KOF: Any player can request to be removed, but be assured if you attend enough notable events in the period and place well, you may be placed just to insure accuracy of the list.

@ Chok: Yea fresno has it really tough but they belong to Norcal as long as the continue to compete in Norcal

@ Miztik: One panelist decision does not make it final. Wait till the Panel decides as a whole to state something like "Fresno isn't Norcal"

Uh, what's with all the people thinking this list is weird? Does anyone actually follow what goes on at AiB?

Maybe some if it might be wrong, but it's really hard to judge when Norcal doesn't even have that many tournaments (as opposed to EC and socal who have at LEAST two tournaments pretty much every weekend.) And I think a lot of smashboarders are seriously underestimating the people who don't post here.

Maybe some people did better at the big tournaments... Norcal has had some of the biggest ones: bio and axis. Maybe there were some names that the panelists are forgetting. But you know why? It's seriously hard to rank people when they don't ACTIVELY go to tournaments.

In melee I realized that I was never ranked because I didn't go to sh*t, though I knew I was good enough to make the cut. I was too busy, and I bugged a lot of people on the NCPR thread for not acknowledging me. But who cares, each player should know where he stands. To be ranked someone has to be both good AND active.
in b4 no c0cknater u werent good enough at melee

Sean and Naners go to every tournament. ? has been performing well. TC1's performance at Axis pretty much got him ranked, nice job Jon. I might not go to a lot of tournaments, but I'd like to, and I still follow the scene pretty closely. I like this list.
