Official Brawl Speculation Forum? Should we have one?

I was listening to the latest podcast yesterday and Youko was talking about how he's really complaining about so many speculation threads. He really shot us all down. I mean, I think it's going to point where near all speculation threads will get locked. Sure the argument is that people spam it and start flaming each other. I've started a pretty popular speculation and well maintained thread (the Advanced Brawl Techniques Confirmed/Disconfirmed* Thread) but I know what he means. Still listening to the podcast made it sound like, "if you speculate, you'll probably get your thread locked and possibly warned." I especially disliked the "a don't start threads discussing the points we discussed in the podcast. There's no point. There's nothing more to be said other than what we two moderators discussed." That's a little extreme. Why don't we follow the same logic and just block the ability to start threads and only allow moderators to start threads on topic they deem proper?

Before this becomes a huge rant towards Youko and the rest of the moderators, (though I do think Youko was out of line with that "we said what needs to be said ::mod muscle flex::, whatever spews from your mouth will be nonsense"† comment) in argreement with the statement that the boards should be kept more professional, I think a speculation forum should open up. You guys can't really expect people's mind to calm down more while the release date is approaching. I've moderated another gaming board before (Space Cowboy Online if you care) and I can tell you, the speculation is going to get worse.

Basically, I'm asking for a speculation forum. It'll keep the General Brawl Discussion clean and you can easily lock/move threads. Though the mods may find such threads stupid and pointless, realize the community is VERY bored. I don't think you'd have to really maintain/clean the forum as much since you pretty much know unpopular theories's threads will die in popularity.

It's threads like these that drive us Brawl boards mods up a wall. Spam and flaming are big problems to be sure, but forum neglect is another. Most ideas already have their place on the boards. Our job as moderators is to keep replication to a minimum. So when all three of these above threads could go in one room of discussion, that's part of the job.

People don't search. Yet they should.

People aren't aware of stickied index threads. And yet they should be.

There also is a point with "over-speculation" and since you reference the podcast, I'm sure you know what I am referring to.

We're working on a Brawl boards FAQ that should be up in the next couple days that will hope to control things instead of bothering administrators for another room. Besides, the Brawl boards will be revamped closer to release as it is, anyway.

To defend myself now, there was no need for threads to be created on rumors that didn't have the biggest amount of ground anyway, that's what we meant on that statement. If you got the impression that you'll be warned for speculating, you obviously aren't too aware of the infraction policy here. And I don't recall saying that quote, but then again, it was our second time recording a 75 minute long podcast, it was around 1 AM, etc.

I had to rewrite this since I accidently lost what I wrote.

Youko, the quote wasn't really a direct quote. It was a paraphrasing but that the basic connotation. That's the message is was giving off whether you realized it when you said it or not. I'll fix that in the first post.

I used to moderate on Space Cowboy Online's forum. I used to be in charge in the Technical Support forum. Anyone has played the game knows it's buggy. There are many times where I had to lock threads by simply stating "If you read the sticky that said 'READ FIRST' then you wouldn't have to open up new threads asking this". So I understand what you're talking about Youko. People can be downright stupid and lazy. The READ FIRST sticky emphasized the use of the FAQs, other stickies and the search function. That's fine and FAQs will help wane down on useless threads. But it still won't help with speculation.

My gripe is really with the over-speculation, or the mod control over what is over speculation and what isn't. It's really in the "eye on the beholder." When I started the Confirm/Disconfirm thread, it was all speculation. Some people though it should have been locked immediately saying things like "Just wait for E for All" or w/e. Tripping (or as Gimpy jokingly calls it Ink Drop) was discovered in that thread (by Zauron in a Yoshi vs Pit match). Wavedashing was disconfirmed and mometum dodge was confirmed in that thread as well. It's a speculation thread. Of course if a thread goes into ranting and stuff, close it, but I don't know about closing threads just because it seems farfetched.

Sure some threads are really going too far. That was my point in the first post. If ridiculously topics are started, they usually die and/or get followed by 10 *facepalm* images. The objective is to keep Brawl clean, right? You're going to still see speculation threads until release. I suggest opening one until December 3rd when it can be closed or members are prohibitted from posting new topics.

I didn't PM you with this because I wanted to see the forum members reaction to this. I'm not trying to start a feud against the mods or w/e but it's partially a rant that at least isn't pointless since I'm trying to promote a new forum. Mr.Victory07 says "ALL the boards are just one big speculation thread" and that's exactly something the mods DO NOT WANT. If I'm wrong, okay, but I think it'll help you guys weed out the clutter.

In my opinion, althought it doesn't matter; Youko just seems like a "trigger-happy" mod.
