Hello fellow marths, Firstly, allow me to introduce myself: I have been playing smash since the n64 vers. and got melee a year after it was released, so I have some decent experience. My Main is marth, not because I'm a fan of fire emblem, nor popularity of him being a higher tiered character, but because I felt most comfortable with him and link as I began to play melee. I can wavedash, not professionally though, and I consistently L-cancel. My Chain-throwing abilities are just beginning to come into perspective with other human opponents; usually I need to hit them after the throw so that they can not recover. Generally I throw my victim behind me as well. My general technique amounts to Fair, Nair, Bair, shield-grab while dashing(jc?), and dash-dodge along with a lot of shielding. I need wavedashing to save my offense though, as without heavily relying on grabbing and chain throwing I find my approach weak. The only thing I can think of to combat this is to F-tilt A. A Lot of the time I find myself relying on rolling to play the mind games I so direly need. I will work on my pivot dashing and wavedashing, but I just don't feel comfortable playing an offensive game, even though when I do, I generally do much better. So I need help with these things and advice on how exactly a good marth dash-dtilts along with fairs in a consistent way to keep my opponents at bay and to keep a combo up.

Wak's Advanced How to Play: Part 1

Watch all three of these to at least understand the terminology a little bit better and maybe even learn something you don't know.

Marth has a great approach game, check Emblem Lord's thread on approaching with Marth, along with various other great threads located here: Collection of Informative Marth Threads

One thing I recommend getting down is spaced shffl late fairs (where you don't fair until you can fastfall). Practice spacing by trying to only hit with the tip. Once you can do that you can apply the Marth shield strategies located in Emblem Lord's approach thread. For other combo ideas I recommend just watching the Marth videos located here: Marth's Video Archive

Dashing dtilts are normally useful when your opponent is trying to dashdance camp or just camp you, since if you utilize the IASA frames it makes it very difficult to grab you if you miss. If they jump around alot though it's not as useful, but you have priority in the air so just react and attack them with the proper attack (nair, bair, upair, uptilt, fair, etc.).
