EDIT: I've decided to change the focus of the thread to a Q&A thread for specific questions that you may have about Samus's play in Brawl- just ask, and those in the know can provide answers if they can.

Seems to be only the Samus-faithful are gonna be maining or paying any attention to Samus this time around- just look at the number of posts in this board compared to, say, Dedede's or Lucario's. (Jigglypuff and G&W are also similarly shafted)

Now, there's some good character impressions on the board, like Silven's, but nobody has really sat down and done a big guide like on some other characters (even G&W got one!)- I was wondering if anybody was planning to do one, or are we pretty much lost at sea/royally boned for the moment? I don't have the game, but like some, I'll have a chance to play it soon and I'll post up my own impressions then, but that's not a replacement for a true guide (I'm not a competition-level player either, so any guide I make wouldn't be as nuanced).

Anyways, since we're here, here's some questions that have been burning deep within my Power Suit-
  1. Does Samus get any Super Armor frames on any of her attacks?
  2. Stale Moves are recharged by landing a good amount of hits via other attacks, and I know multi-hit jab attacks don't count each hit for recharging- does the same hold true for the Screw attack, as well as the FAir and the Up Smash?
  3. Do Perfect-shields still reflect projectiles?
  4. Do any of her throws set up for combos?
  5. Besides changing knockback, have her attacks' properties changed in other ways? For example, her Utilt in Melee popped the opponent up if he or she was on the ground, but kicked them forward if them were in the air. Her UAir, on the other hand, tended to pop the opponent to the side on the last hit.
So there you have it- some of my inquiries, along with a request for a guide from a humble servant to Ms. Aran.

And hey, if push comes to shove, I'll just start a topic to pool all the impressions from everybody in one single thread.

Thats pretty much what we have right now. If someone wants a Samus guide they just have to look around the Samus board (which will take less than 4mins) and just piece together the info we have right now.

Maybe someone just haven't gotten around to writing one yet. With some big Samus players out there I'm sure we'll get one soon. If worst comes to worst we'll get one shortly after the US release.

1. Not that I've noticed
2. Don't know, can check tomorrow.
3. Nope
4. No guaranteed combo. You can read how they react from certain throws and punish, but I guess that's not really a combo.
5. Hitting with the front of dsmash no longer sends people behind you. Grapple now can tipper and gets increased knockback with higher %. Smash missiles go over most of the casts' head when they duck. Bair you have to time now, can't start it and hit later like a sex kick. There's a lot more changed with her but cant think of it at the moment.

I think it's a bit early for a Samus guide. There hasn't been man Brawl tournaments so it's hard to give advice on what works against people and character match ups (since there are so many in this game). Only thing I could provide is statistics.

i've got a few questions
- can you FF the grapple?
- is it any faster than normal FFing?
- if you can FF it, how is the right/left DI? can you waveland with the grapple?
- any chance of the grapple interrupting your jump like the airdodge in melee?

Thanks for the answers, Rohins- and you guys are right, a Samus guide will show up eventually. This might be a better idea though- we can just use this thread as a question-and-answer thread in lieu of a guide. Anybody got questions, they post 'em, and whoever can answer them, does- simple and clean.

You can FF before a grapple but I don't think after you've initiated it. I'll check later if you can FF right as you grapple. It should be noted that if you FF while airdodging in general it's like FF air grapple in melee. Samus doesn't get a major speed boost but Link fast falls really fast this way.

Your DI stays pretty much the trajectory of your jump, doesn't gain horizontal. I haven't tried wavelanding with grapple yet.

Doesn't interrupt jump. You can still use it during your airdodge and with it's new abilities it's pretty cool to air dodge -> attack with this.

----

Just wanted to say this: If someone is shielding and you run upsmash inside their shield you damage a fresh shield enough to shield poke, probably getting the last hit (unless they smash DI.) I'll experiment with it more vs humans. Right now only have messed with it in training mode and vs level 9 cpus.

-Extended Grapple was and easter egg (I believe) in Melee. I think it was removed in PAL (correct me if I am wrong), so dont expect it here. However, the same d-pad combo will lead to Samus losing her armor and becoming Zero Suit, but it has to be done significantly faster.

-Some people argue its nerfed, some its buffed. Ill let you draw your own conclusion from this. It kills at higher %s (comparatively..about the same if you look at straight %s), but I think it might be a drop slower. It has less range (used to out range Marth, but doesnt anymore...and Marth had a range reduction). Its definitely Samus' easist to place kill move, so dont use it too much...you need it to be at full power for when they get to kill percents.

-Doubtful

-Samus' KO moves are: f-smash, d-tilt, d-smash, b-air, d-air, charge-shot, u-tilt (if hit so as to send straight up). I believe that to be it.

Ouch, that's a pretty bad slew of KO moves. :O

Anyway, since Samus's projectiles have been nerfed... I guess her close-range combat has become better? How well can she combo now?
