So, yes, this topic has been brought up in a thread before, but given both the brevity of that content and the fact that it hasn't been touched in over half a year I felt starting another conversation was warranted.

The question is a simple one. What character or characters do you consider to be good secondaries for WFT mains, and why? Any input is welcome!

Edit: As a possible jumping off point, the old discussion of this topic mentioned King Dedede, Bowser, and Shulk all by name as possible strong secondaries. Thought on these options given how much has changed since they were suggested?

Definitely Mr. Game and watch,Ness, or Lucas. Since Wii fit trainer has a terrible matchup against
Mr. Game and watch
Ness
Pikachu
Mario
And Lucas

That's just my opinion though

I wouldn't really seriously consider D3 or Bowser as secondaries, honestly. They don't really cover any of wii fit's bad matchups and their large hurtbox really just makes them combo food.

Wii fit trainer plays the 'campy' come-to-me game exceptionally well, but still struggles with shorter characters (Diddy, kirby, game & watch, the Earthbound twins, pikachu, etc.) So someone who has a good matchup against those is a good character to start.

Maybe someone like Pikachu, or Kirby?

I like using DK. He's good against heavier characters which (it might just be me) WFT has trouble against. He's also good against Marios, which are an absolute nightmare.

Pretty sure the heavies are just an issue you're having, since WFT's projectiles and great off-stage game make slow characters with poor recoveries die very early and get zoned out hard. Plus, they're the most susceptible to N-air combos and are pretty easy to bury generally, making damage racking a breeze at close range. Still, I'm no expert, so it is possible.

While these suggestions do work from a technical standpoint, the idea of using any character as your secondary who your primary has issues with just doesn't sit well with me personally. After all, if you're playing someone of equal skill, they should beat you in a ditto between their primary and your secondary. Not that these aren't possibilities, but they do suffer from this issue.

With that said, I also brought the topic up in the social thread, and while most suggestions were for characters that fall into this same group, there was also passing mention of Luigi and Meta Knight. Sadly, neither is a character I know very well, but I figured since this thread is still active I should probably bring the info over anyways.

I can see where you're point though I still think G&W especially is a great secondary for WFT maybe I'm just a little biased though since I use him.

I can vouch for MK working well with WFT as they cover each other's bad MUs well bar Sheik. The biggest issue with him as a secondary is honestly deciding to leave him as a secondary when he has an arguably better matchup spread.

Mine are Villager and Mii Gunner-3312(When allowed). These two cover Wii Fits weaknesses very well.

Mario is also a great choice.

Honestly any character that isn't in the top 13 on the tier list isn't a good secondary for Wii Fit. Just go with a high tier.

I'm Wii Twerk Trainer. The Wii Fit and Mii Gunner specialist. Wish I could change my name to my new tag, but I dunno how lol
Hahaha I knew it! Dude you're so awesome, probably my favorite WFT (I'm not really stalking I've seen you on Ace's streams, lol)

Do you have any recommendations for a WFT secondary if I play D3 and Robin? I thought about toon link before

Aww thank you <3 AceStar and I get along so well <3 I recommend you don't use King Dedede or Robin as secondaries. Neither of those two help Wii Fit with his/her weaknesses. You need someone who can hit small characters well, fast, or is a great zoner.

I use Mii Gunner(3312) and Villager, because both benefit Wii Fit extremely well.

Mario
Toon Link
Or any high tier who's fast or can hit small characters makes good secondaries for Wii Fit. Slow characters are just counterproductive.

Wii Fit Trainer, surprisingly, covers herself pretty well, in my opinion!

I suggest picking up a secondary that moves away from her playstyle somewhat, while offering creative differences in play with their own advantages.

R.O.B. and G&W are my picks!

Oh what the heck I thought I had posted in this one.

For picking up secondaries, it's important to decide what you want that secondary to do: cover Wii Fit's HOPELESS matchups, or her DIFFICULT matchups.

If you're looking for hopeless matchups, Kirby is really the only one who falls into this category, for reasons I'm sure we're all well aware of already. Every other matchup in the game is doable, even if some of them can get really pissy in a hurry. Anyway, as far as secondaries for fighting Kirby, the Kirby mains in NYC seem to agree that the best matchups to choose against him appear to be Luigi and Sonic. I've been using Luigi to fight Kirby mains here so I can vouch for his efficacy. I don't have any real first or second-hand experience on how Sonic handles the matchup but I'm willing to believe that Kirby does have a tough time with him, so keep him in mind too.

After that, we have a list of all of Wii Fit's difficult matchups. Of course there's Kirby, but then we have Sheik, Ness, Fox, Mario, Villager, and Falco to contend with. There appears to be a large variety in terms of playstyle between these characters, but overall it really boils down to characters with an effective capability to negate our projectile game, or characters with endless rushdown. In this case it's difficult to pinpoint which characters you're gonna want to use secondaries on, and which ones you'll want to stick with Wii Fit, since everyone has differences in preference and style, but in general, Sonic and Sheik are rather stable choices a player can lean on to be able to cover all of the above matchups. If you believe you can handle some of those characters with Wii Fit herself, then some more characters may become viable for you to use as secondaries.

Kirby and MK are my WFT secondaries, they seem to be pretty popular choices around here too so I'd recommend them.

John12346 John12346 Are coming to Genesis 3? If so, do you plan on entering dubs? Would be neat to go double Wii Fit Twerk Team lol
Unfortunately, probably not. Traveling is very difficult for me because of the expenses which is why people usually only see me enter NY tournies or NJ if it's accessible at a low cost.

I find Rosalina does really well covering her bad MUs. I mean Rosa covers Ness,Kirby,Mario,Villager, and Falco(iirc). Of course you might need another secondary for MK and Sheik which I'd recommend Kirby for those pesky two.

Rosalina also is a viable secondary for Wii Fit Trainer. She covers Ness,Kirby,Villager,Mario,Lucas and possibly even Falco. Rosalina is able to take on Sheik decently but struggles against MK. If you're struggling against MK and Sheik I'd recommend Kirby

I personally have Sheik and Kirby as my secondaries, Sheik mainly, MK is just a pocket for me, plus my kirby sucks, so I just use Sheik.
