Non contact mortar slide

Hi, i've been forum lurking for a while, but i thought i'd man up and register and make a few posts :D

I've been playing with Snake for a while, and i played the heck out of the N64 version of SSB but never touched the gamecube version so im a little slow.

I can do the normal contact mortal slide (like everyone else probably can) but im having a lot of trouble trying the non contact one. I've only ever pulled it off about twice. And yes, i have read the stickies but i find this still cant help me.

So does anyone have any tips on how to perform a non-contact mortar slide? Im using the gamecube controller so the c-stick is available. Any ideas what frames or what stage of the roll that i could pull it off? Thanks.

There are many ways of doing it! Check out this thread.

I would try the ways THOR listed. I don't really know the specific frame you need to do it at. But, just practice on Final Destination. You can do it anywhere really. It's just FD has the most space.

Just try to make the sequence as quick and fluent as possible. There are different timings.

Oh, and welcome to Smashboards. :)

Welcome to the boards.

Non-contact mortar sliding is like riding a bike. Once you get the hang of it, it will never leave you. However, it is pretty hard to get used to at first. And if you play with your friends on wi-fi, the lag sometimes completely kills this tech.

Also theres like a billion + 1 names for this same move. I always just call it Snakedash :p

There are two ways:
Flick up down then up on the c-stick REALLY fast
or do the preferred method of :
Dash -> C-stick-down ->up Z
(press up first or at the same time or else you'll just accidently grab, most people know what i mean)
This mortar slide ( Dash, Cstickdown, up z) can also be used with link to do a dash attack cancel which performs a long (but shorter than mortarslide) Up smash.

A good video is the art of link and wait for DAC (dash attack cancel) and use the same button imput as shown.

Good luck!

3 things:

1.) Welcome to SWF
2.) I prefer the c-stick method myself. Flicking it really fast isn't that tough for me.
3.) Yeah, we as the Snake community really need to decide on a single name. I call it Snakedashing right now, but I guess I recognize it as a variety of other things.

The easiest way is with the nunchuck combo: activate shake smashes and while running just do the shake down smash, is fail/fool-proof and it may work for you if you have not grown too attached to the GC controller.
I am pretty happy with this system since I skipped melee too.

I call it mortarslide but snakedashing sounds fine too
