Blasphemy.. G&W was a fantastic character. Not only does he represent the very early days of Nintendo, but his unique graphic styl, low framerate, and excellent "voice"sound effect collection made him absolutely hilarious. I will kill someone is G&W is not in Brawl, and I'd be willing to bet money that he returns.
Miis are fantastic characters. Not only do they represent the very recent days of Nintendo, but his customizable graphic style, (average framerate), and seemingly random moveset that would look hilarious, make them an excelent choice for Brawl. I won't kill someone if they are not in, but I'd be willing to bet money that they make an appearance.

PS. GaW is awesome, I hope he returns too. Miis are just as hilarious though. Anyone with a Wii should be able to see that.

PPS. If you can't imagine a Mii moveset, go to the Mii thread. link

the Mii may be an ok character, but to think that a stupid *** mii got in over some other character is reason enough to deny their inclusion, and G&W was the man i hope he returns

Well, if Miis were to get in (which I won't debate, seeing as I'd get flamed pro and con) I think they should at least get a Brawl-ish graphics update. Not that they should look realistic or anything, but they just shouldn't look like some alpha-stage test character.

Yet another stupid "These are the only characters that should be allowed in brawl" threads. Not only do we have several of these already but they are all pretty much just idiots ranting about their opinion like it's fact.

You're right, I guess we should just *******ize Brawl with a lot of meaningless D list characters.

Smash Bros has a limited number of character slots. Realistic roster sizes are around 36-40 characters for Brawl, I'd say; there should certainly never be more than say, 64, and that's pushing it. This means that the creators have to be discriminating and make sure only the best of the best get in the game. Some of the characters that are being suggested (and having threads dedicated to them) are just completely absurd suggestions. That is not opinion. It's fact.

You realize that this is the character SUGGESTION forums and that none of these threads being made will change who gets into the game and who doesn't. If someone wants a random Goomba in brawl and he makes a thread to support him that's his opinion on who he wants for brawl and no one has the right to say his opinion is wrong ESPECIALLY when he even admits he knows Goomba won't get in and says he just wants him in. This entire thread is pointless and never should have been made.

And the same could be said about the Goomba thread and 100 related threads that inspired my rant in the first place. I got annoyed at all of those threads polluting these boards, so I ranted about it. Deal with it.

This topic is pretty ridiculous. It turned from character inclusions to a Mii debate(I agree that Mii's suck by the way,and I do have a Wii.It's just a figure that emulates facial expressions).

I have to stop comming to the Brawl forums.I rather involve myself in a game that's out rather than ***** about a game that hasn't even been releasesd yet.

EPF out.

Ok, first a note: I have not found a thread for this topic already, so if one exists, I apologize.

Now, on to business.

I have noticed a plethora of requests, and even dedicated threads, for every random, generic character you can think of to be included in the Brawl fighting roster. A lot of people seem to think it's a good idea to include characters such as Navi, Tingle, Dry Bones, Koopa Troopa, E. Gadd, Boo, Saria, Pico, Stanley the Bugman, Sandbag (???), Bubbles, and approximate 137 different pokémons. The character index thread completely boggles my mind with its endless list of no-name characters.

This nonsense has seriously got to stop. Smash Bros is a place for Nintendo's elite to duke it out, not a place to parade out every single character who has ever made an appearance in a game. If we start including these characters, not only will balancing the game become absurdly difficult, but the real mascots will become buried in a sea of 500 random characters that many people are going to look at and say "who the hell is THAT?".

So, to clear up some confusion, here is, in my opinion, a list of things that would make a character worthy of a spot in the Smash Bros fighting roster:

1) Having a franchise named after you (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Fox, etc), or being the franchise's main hero (Samus, Link, etc)

2) Being a particular franchise's resident damsel in distress (Peach, Zelda, etc)

3) Being a main playable character in at least a few game of a franchise (Diddy/Dixie Kong). Being in a Mario Kart game, or being a sidekick in one Paper Mario game does not count

4) Being a mainstay as a franchise's major villain (Ganondorf/Ganon, Bowser, Mewtwo, King DeDeDe, etc). Villains who are not final bosses but who are nonetheless iconic franchise members as second-tier bosses (MetaKnight, Ridley, etc), could also be included, as either playable characters or assist trophies depending on the character. Characters like Mother Brain would stil be out just for the lack of a feasible way to implement them into the game

That should pretty much cover it. Any other character like a lower minion (goomba, koopa troopa, kremling, what have you) has absolutely no right to be a regular roster member. The only other way to implement a character is as an assist trophy. Since there can't very well be hundreds of those, AT spots should be reserved for long-lasting franchise regulars, particularly for iconic ones like Hammer Bros. or Lakitu from the Mario universe, Klap Trap from DK, Waddle Doo from Kirby, Octorocks, Moblins or maybe even Stalfos from Zelda, etc.

So, that should about conclude my rant for now. If anyone agrees with me in principal and wants to chime in on what makes a character "Smash-worthy" to them, feel free. If anyone who actually wants these generic characters wants to defend their opinions against what I've said here, be my guest. But you'll have a REALLY hard time convincing me that the characters I listed above should be playable in ANY Smash Bros game.

So you made a spam thread because you where mad at a bunch of spam threads?
Wow. I actually agree with you for a change, Numa Dude. Although the Happy Mask Salesman is still as generic as they come...

In all seriousness, though. If people wanna create lame-*** threads, who are you to say otherwise? Let 'em vouch for their Goombas and their Koopa-Troopas. If the mods haven't closed these "generic character" threads, I'm sure they haven't done it for one good reason that I can think of: IT'S MINDLESS SPECULATION. Fluff geared towards the inevitable release of Brawl. We're not inside Sakurai and Company's heads, so we can't be too terribly discerning of what is and what isn't. We're fed a diet of updates, and really that's all we have to go on. We can sit there and pontificate with all of the facts and logic that we want, but in the end it's just for kicks.

It's not that I don't respect your opinion, Maxpower. On the contrary, I think Brawl should be filled to the brim with notable characters (then again, however, my list of notable characters may differ from yours. I don't consider Mewtwo to be an iconic representative for all things Pokemon, for instance. That's Pikachu's job). Ancillary characters should either be unlockable little trophies or ATs. My point is there's really no point in making a thread like this one decrying similar threads. As Numa Dude said, it is a spam thread that's targeting other spam threads---and it's redundant, too.

Smooth Criminal

P.S. Miis NOT for Brawl, Wiseguy. I have been secretly against your little idea right from the inception of your character list. O.O;

I don't see how one thread is as much spam as 200 generic character request threads, but whatever. I'm not trying to ban people from making these threads, I'm just making my opinion on the matter known, and trying to see if people agree with me. I felt that rather than posting the same reasons for opposing a certain character in all of those character suggestion thread, I would just make my own. Sorry if that makes it spam, but I don't see how it does.

Miis as the new wireframe team has to IMO be the best idea yet I heard for them.

How does Tingle count as a "no-name character"? He even got his own game in Japan. I'm aware that he (and Navi) are pretty much hated in America. Either way, I really don't see him showing up as playable.

Eh, fine.. Bubbles wasn't really one of the suggestions I had the biggest problem with, but I still fail to see how he'd be as exciting as IC or Pit.
Isn't Bubbles female, despite not really looking like it? Speaking of which, what is up with Nintendo having many characters who's gender is debatable and even some that are different depending on region?

Does this mean this topic is going from general characters to Miis to Bubbles' gender? Can we somehow get Sonic thrown into the mix? j/k
