It was not a simple Monday of July, it was a #MonadoMonday and everyone, their mothers and Sal Romano were expecting Shulk.
But then the trailer started and we see... Fire Emblem. Yeah, ok, it's Chrom instead... Wait, no, it's Lucina? Ok this animation is hype, even if Chrob just gets up, at least we got a good trailer and oh **** she's aboit to be Falcon Pun-- WAIT WHAT WAS THAT WAIT WAI OH **** IS THAT IS THAT WHO I THINK IT IS??????????

And that was how Gematsu was murdered live on screen, the hypest moment of Smash speculation.

Gematsu was kinda legit though. It was basically the initial plan for Smash 4. The only changes were that Robin was chosen over Chrom and Chorus Kids were cut due to 3DS limitations.

I interpret the Gematsu leaker saying "X/Y Pokemon" as him not knowing what Greninja's name was due to being chosen before X/Y was revealed.

Xenoblade benefited from Smash inclusion. Fire Emblem sort of did as well though even with all that exposure it was still on the chopping block afterwards.

I could make an argument that every franchise benefited from Smash to some degree.

I think at this point we can all agree that Gematsu was an early development plan and that the real problem is that this frickin' heckhole of a fandom doesn't see any grey area between "fake" and "100% accurate" even though it's painfully obvious the sheer number of things that change during the dev cycles of any given game.

I really loved all of the Smash 4 trailers. I would actually go back every now and then to watch them through again. They're still incredibly hype inducing, even 3-5 years after they were initially released.

The Mii trailer is still the funniest one.

The arguments against Gematsu have always twisted by brain, since everything lines up near-perfectly.

I remember the one sticking point people would say was "well Sakurai said Chrom was only considered, not planned". Well gee I guess it's likelier that everything else was just some divine coincidence rather than someone who's bent the truth before bending the truth again.

Sure it got a thing or two wrong and a few omissions but it was still legit. Robin's confirmation doesn't mean much as to Gematsu being "false"

For some people cynicism is more important than logic. Either that or being the opposite and then flipping out when they don't get everything they outright expected because they were insane.

Although character cuts I automatically assume are the person just being a [DATA EXPUNGED] rather than a cynic because veterans are easier to add than newcomers, clones are easier to add than unique characters, and basically the amount of tradeoff for whatever stupid character they have in mind isn't even remotely worth it, assuming it's even that and not just a salty tantrum.

Long story short I'm kind of tsundere with the Smash fandom.

Uh, not really.

Many of the characters in Smash are members of series that are still ongoing, officially concluded, or never really had anything going in the first place.
When it comes to franchises that died in Smash, you'd have and maybe and and even those last three are debatably not true.
