I'm honestly past the point of thinking Sonic '06 is even "so bad it's good". Coming from someone who originally actually genuinely liked it as a kid.

Trying to play it in more recent times, I usually get bored or frustrated really fast. And on top of that, it's a stain the franchise still hasn't lived down since it's brought up in nearly every Sonic review ever.

Then again maybe that's because I got all the achivements and played all of the DLC and spent hours upon hours messing around with the glitches.

Only thing I really defend about is that Sonic's level design is legitimately great...it's just held back by everything else.

Also it's weirdly enough, a big part of why I got interested in game development as career.

Sonic 06 can be fun with glitches, but if you want to play it seriously, it is a horrible game.
Story is very boring, and gameplay is trash.

From the perspective of the Sonic universe, the weird interspecies relationship thing between Sonic and Elise wasn't even the confusing part.

The confusing part was how the hell Elise's legs got that tan when her face was porcelain white.

Yeah, honestly the worst part about 06 is that it's been 12 years and it's still the metric the entire franchise is measured by.

Twelve years. Like, hell, what other franchise that releases games at the pace Sonic does has a dead horse beaten that hard?

Pretty sure she's wearing leggings.

It's not conveyed well because that's early Xbox 360 models for ya. But I think that's what they were going for.

Bad fake tan attempt?

Also maybe 06 is still the metric because for every Colors and Generations you have an Unleashed and Forces so people just go back to remembering where things took a dive.

Oh hey so how about that Steven Universe episode, huh?
White Diamond is creepy, not in what you'd expect but with how she acts like an unconcerned mother to Steven and her monotone. It also seems like she knew of everything already so I'm curious on how things go from here.

Public figurehead of an entire nation and not one person up to the task to tell her literally any other color would go better with that dress.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Nowdays we call that color "Presidential Orange." I suppose back then the term would have been "Bottled Malibu."

I kind of want to do a "Rocket Grunt" run of red/blue.

1) Only use Pokemon Rocket Grunts use
2) Potentially only use Pokémon that don't belong to you.

I dunno how hard that second rule is in red/blue

Unleashed wasn't even bad though, people just knee-jerked to the alternate playstyle that I'm pretty sure was SEGA's warped answer to the fandom's misaimed whining of "we don't want other characters anymore."

...Well, Eggmanland could rack up some controller throwing through sheer length and difficulty. But unlike 06 and Forces the game was actually jank free, aesthetically pleasing, and just generally a good product. The premise is just really easy to make people freak out at.

The best way to experience 06's story is through Johnny's review of the game

Worst Sonic game? Hrm...

I tend to forget about Sonic Labyrinth, but it's the only Sonic game where Sonic's speed is taken AWAY from you completely. It defeats Sonic speed's niche completely. While Sonic Labyrinth functions well enough, it just feels awkard as heck and is boring as heck. I can't stand Sonic Labyrinth.

However, from a critical standpoint...Free Riders is unplayable. 06 is more infamous, but Free Riders is less functional, somehow.

I’ve never liked Sonic games to begin with, so I’m not really sure what the worst one was. Rise of Lyric?
Rise of Lyric is about as bad as 06, imo. It's hilariously bad concerning physics and glitches, but imo I think it's overhated and there are other games that are just plain bad rather than being "so bad, it's good". Free Riders falls into the "just bad; no redeeming qualities whatsoever" category for me due to no enjoyable content at all, whether meme, ironic enjoyment or straight enjoyment.

Worst Sonic game for me?

Sonic '06 without a doubt. That **** wasn't enough to save me from the craziness of the glitches.

Sonic 06 had genuine hype around it before release. It initially looked like a grand evolution for the franchise. But tons of ideas and ambitions just didn't deliver. And the end result was a game that still haunts the franchise 12 years later.

Whether Rise of Lyric is better or worse is up for debate, but 06 is no doubt the game that left the bigger impact.

Rise of Lyric lost what made it fun when every glitch was patched, imo.

Honestly, glitches or not Rise of Lyric was still a boring mess.

Still, I feel bad for the team behind it though, there was talented people at Big Red Button. But trying to cram the game onto a console that could barely handle it is what led to it's downfall, and as such completely soured SEGA's entire Sonic Boom project.

There was a problem fetching the tweet
These are somehow bigger coincidences than Deku's villain bumping tendencies.
"guy with fire powers and burn marks around his left eye with an abusive father and a (likely) evil sibling with fire powers too except theirs are blue" was somehow not inspired by the "guy with fire powers and burn marks around his left eye with an abusive father and an evil sibling with fire powers too except theirs are blue".
