I subscribe to game mags because it gives me something to read on the ****ter.

As far as mags go, NP is great because it's the only publication with in-depth DS coverage. Besides, magazine subscriptions are ridiculously cheap. I think I can afford $1.50 a month.

I had Nintendo Power many years ago up till about the Middle of the N64's life, oddly the first place I heard about Smash Brothers for the first time. But really there seem to little information that doesn't seem to appear instantiously on the Net anyway.

But the point has already been stated that those maganizes are printed months at a time so the likelyhood of getting information we already have on the dojo is unlikely. The magazine used to be an okay source of information before the internet became a bigger source of information.

Abra abra cadabra. I wanna reach out and grab ya!
Magazines just can't compete against the internet for new information. It's impossible. That's why magazines have to rely more and more on exclusives.

Take a look at EGM (my favorite video game magazine. GI is terrible). They try to get exclusive sessions on new games, or try to be the first people to announce new games. This way, they can have in depth previews and analysis on games before the internet juggernauts can.

As for Nintendo Power, it's not a bad magazine. Once they changed to the new format, their reviews got a lot more fair and their previews got a lot more interesting. I remember seeing things in that magazine that the internet never even hinted about (except in rumors and such).

Magazines still have potential in this world. Besides, it's just so much lighter carrying a magazine than a five pound Toshiba laptop around:)

Ma....ga....zines? What are these things?

Seriously though, Nintendo Power and other magazines are good for nostalgia. But, they are pretty worthless when it comes to getting "new" information.
That's true, there is usually a leak of information on the internet before any video game magazine can publish it. Nintendo Power is mostly a source of fan-based material, reviews, and tips and strategies for games that have already came out. Most of this you can already find on the internet still, but it's still more fulfilling for some people to read the magazine.

How many people who claim Nintendo Power is biased have actually subscribed to the magazine at some point? I've been a subscriber for about three years, and a reader for even longer than that. They are definitely not "biased" in any way shape or form. You could argue that they are sometimes easy going with their scores, but then you'd include third party games as well. Just automatically tack off a whole point if you feel that way.

They definitely get a lot of info (and destribute it) before many other magazines/websites do though.

And they used to print all issues two months in advance. I'm not sure how they're currently doing things. The time gap feels shorter, but I really have no idea.
Dude... I've subscribed to multiple game magazines, including NP. Yes they do suck. Sometimes a decent strat guide. Anything thing else that may be remotly useful has to do with pokemon or mario. Seriously. I love Nintendo and everything they have done... I hate NP
